Hi All and Sundry. I will be possibly visiting family in Bloemfontein and in particular the Bloemdal area, during November. Does anyone know of any good Bass Dams. I would like to fish whilst visiting and am prepared to tow my boat up.

Any suggestions, even if there are walk around dams, your assistance would be appreciated.
You could go to Gariep, I've seen reports of a monsters coming out of there.

Just caution the dam though...its big and the wind cranks on the dam
What about Bloemhoek (bloem something) at Kokstad?
Thanks for the info Dcfi
Hi Rip, to be honest I have no Clue of any dams there. I will be going on info I receive on the site. But thanks anyway, i will google the name.

Gariep dam is foooken far away from Bloemfontein - you can try Krugersdrift dam which is out on the old Kimberley Road or that dam no one is talking about near Kroonstad which is not too far from Bloem.
Peter, it was even mentioned amongst all the runours about where august's record fish came from!

@ Gariep I believe a nice launch site at Forever resorts and if you fish the upper clearer waters there are some lunkers to be had - haven't been yet but planning to test out.

Jos, Kroonstad is 200km from Bloem, Gariep is 179...

There is 2 dams between Kroonstad and Bloem (Erfenisdam and Allemanskraal) but I have not heard of reports of bass in these dams. You might want to check the sealines forum for info there.
(edit: I've caught bass in the Salt River that goes through Virginia, and this flows into the Allemanskraall dam, so there might very well be bass in this dam)

Krugersdrift has no bass.

Gariep is on my hit list, we'll be going there in December if the winds are calmer, or mid Feb when there is little to no wind.
Where is Bloemfontein ........ :blue-biggrin:

When I go to Clanwilliam Dam I drive +- 240 km
To Kwaggaskloof Dam +- 160 km
To Theewaterskloof Dam +-110 km

So ja Jos +-190 km not a big deal hey

Peter, just measured Garep - looks like you can drive for about 130 km from wall up the dam. Its 94 % full at the moment. Full cap = 5000 mil cub - Clanwilliam 130 mil cub

You will need a bigger petrol tank!! :blue-biggrin:
Thanks Paul. Jislaaik dit is n Mooooerse stuk water.
