Hi guys

...A few people has been robbed again at Inanda over the weekend. Does any one know about this or is it just another rumour ?
Appel, all I know is that some idiot got a well deserved klap.... in fact he got two. What I'm interested to know is how many of these supposed and actual incidents take place within the "secure" section on the right hand side as you drive in. If you go and plonk your tent in the middle of a township (which it effectively is because you can just pull the main gate open) then one can expect the odd incident. If these thefts are taking place within the fenced off area with remote gate then I'd get very concerned. The only time I have ever camped at inanda is during the classic as I live so close there is no need for me to camp there.
Hi Drew

I do not know. I have camped there before and the only problems whe had was with some drunk young adults between 15 and 16 yrs. There is a few rumors about theft etc within the main camp site. How can one verify these rumours.....?

Appel,
I was there on my own last week and my family joined me on Friday. I had no hassles from a theft point of view, neither did I hear of anything.
Thanks Fishton

You know what it is like ... rumours can cause a huge ammount of unnessasary problems.
hi Appel

i have camped at inanda quite a lot and have never had a problem, i am more concerned that my house could be broken into when i am at the dam for a weekend.
Not a rumour this time I'm afraid guys, it was front page news on the Highway Mail last week. Apparently the usual tent slashing took place, and apparently this time the victims were gassed somehow. The tried to catch one of the culprits, but he was smeared with grease or vaseline or something, and they couldn't grab hold of him! As far as I know nobody was hurt, but are missing a few cellphones and cameras etc.

AND FISHTON CAMPS THERE ALONE ALL WEEK!!!!!! What a man!!

Smeegle, the incident you talking about happened on the 7th January. And as far as being a man goes, to put up with 'rich bitches' in Audi's and 'men' with boyfriends in Subaru's is a much scarier thing!!!!!!!!!
The first time I camped at Inanda the people right next to us were cleaned out. We were up until 01:30 that morning, so the scum was sitting and waiting all the time. Tents were slashed right where the people's heads were and items like cellphones, cameras, hand bags and car keys were stolen. They then opened the cars and continued there early morning shopping. All this in the so called "secure" camp area.

It goes without say that this was my first and last overnight stay at Inanada. If I want to camp then Albert's is my place, as for Inanda I'm out of there before the sun sets. In view of the reported attack on people on the road just outside the dam, I now travel with my 9mm on my lap up and down the hill.

I am a Risk Management Profesional and all indications are that it is just a matter of time before a camper is going to be killed at Inanada, not if...when!

As much as I love this sport my life is more important and I will not stay there. Sad state of affairs we have here in our beautifull country!

As a risk management proffesional don't you think you've got a bigger chance of your house been 'cleaned' out while safely camping at Albert's?

I'm just biased because Inanda is like my second home. If you compare what has happened at Inanda with the locals stealing and what-not, compared to what happens weekly in our own towns, it's just a drop in the ocean. Don't even get me started on the white little rugrats that come to the dam.
fishton i agree 100% with you .
Guys, Apple post the following question:

There is a few rumors about theft etc within the main camp site. How can one verify these rumours.....?

Based on first hand experience the answer is YES!

My house got robbed, cars were broken into and stolen, my 18 old son got hi-jacked in my drive and shots where fired at him. We all experience this in South Africa but what's that got to do with Apple's question?

Apple not only were there theft at the main camp site but people have been stoned and shot at from the houses whilst on their boats. Cars were held up at gun point just outside the dam. Hope that answers your question. Wheter one still go to the dam for the day or camp or stay away completely is an individual choise.
