howzit okes!
last week i went off and bought my self a swim jig. i couldnt find the color i wanted so i just bought 3 different skirts (light brown/green flake, dark brown/ blue flake, and faded orange)
i took a couple strands from each skirt and put them into one and put it on my swim jig. i positioned the different colors like this: dark brown/blue flake on top then the light brown on the rest of the body, and i trimmed the orange shorter and used less strands and positioned it at the bottom of the jig and closer to the head.
i guess you all get that im trying to imitate a bluegill.
then i rigged it with a 5" cane thumper in SS shad color and i chopped about a 1 and a 1/4 inches off of the cane thumper.
i decided to test it out at one of the dams infront of my house and went into the river gorge where you can cast to the otherside. i rigged the jig on my ALX zolo B toadface with my black max and 15lb invisX. there were alot of laydowns on the other side and i was casting my swim jig as far as i could into them and then letting it fall and swimming it out the laydown.
i cast to a laydown that was in about 6ft of water and right next to a drop off. i let it fall and as i started bringing it out the laydown i got munched! he was quite a distance away but i set the hook hard, the ALX has such good back bone! he was properly hooked and i let him fight me. what a lekker fight and i landed him.
i carried on and cast into another laydown and this time i jerked it twice close to the surface like a bluegill dashing out the laydown. before i even let it drop back into the laydown i got eaten and set the hook . he swam straight for some brush but i managed to haul him out with my 15lb invisX.
the photo did this weird thing where it split the rod in two?
was a lekker fishing sesh and the ALX did well and my custom jig skirt worked wonders!
