I have an older Mercury Thruster 41lb trolling motor and I need the nylon nut for it that secure the prop in place.
Does anyone know where I can find one or maybe have one manufactured off my old one as it is showing signs of wear and does not lock nicely in place anymore.
Any advice will be most welcome.

Replace with a stainless steel lock nut. Should be available at Builders.
Dont over tighten, just "nip" it.

And whilst you at it Nav, replace the shear pin as well - old needle roller bearings can provide the right size.

Nav, whats the size of that pin? I have a few old needle bearings lying around in my workshop that might do the trick

The thruster series is different to the motorguide series but there is still a small prop pin but you might need to pull the gear housing assembly off after you remove the prop....?

Thanks Dcfi. I actually lost the original pin and manufactured my own. I will give you a shout and swing by. Was also thinking of replacing with a lock nut from Builders.

Just make sure its stainless steel, washer included if it needs one.
Let me know a size on the pin and I'll dig one out of the workshop

@Navrik. Any bolt and nut suppliers should be able to supply you with a nylock nut. I changed all mine on the quad bike with those nuts. Just make sure to take the old one with as a sample as the thread pitch might not be a standard pitch. The nylock nut should in any case be stainless steel

Nav,just a word of caution...the shear pin on the trolling motor prop is designed to 'shear' if you strike something hard too many times, thereby protecting your expensive prop(I am sure you know this). The needle rollers from a bearing are nicely shaped to do the job of turning your prop, but are WAY too hard to shear if required to do so...just give me the diameter of the material and I am sure I can find a piece of softened mild steel to do the trick.

Smurf, now you raise something interesting. Is it as much as a shear pin or is it just a means to connect the prop with the drive shaft as in the spool shaft to pinion gear in a reel??

Would this shear pin not be the same as a split pin as used on your cars wheel nuts?

No Splashy it's not. This pin normaly goes through the shaft and the prop has a slot in the back to locate it in this pin. As tight as the prop nut might be, the prop can still slip if pin is gone.
Some okes use aluminium welding rods for pins?
