Sean, remember Kevin vD's Quantum is nowhere near the one you can buy off the shelf.I would'nt be surprised if Quantum has it built for him by Shimano or Daiwa.

You damn right Sean. Quantum and Daiwa do one hell of a job with their sponsorship offers. On the other hand Shimano make a great product at one hell of a price and wouln't give a man ice cubes in the north pole. The Daiwa vs Shimano debate will always be there, same as the Canon vs Nikon debate on photographic websites.
They are both good products, final choice depends on personal preference. I had Shimano Curados (still have 2) but have moved over to Daiwa simply because I like the fact that I can set the brake with a dial rather than opening up the side panel and adjusting magnets.
You won't go wrong with either, the Daiwa Exceler is available (haven't seen them in the Cape shops though) which I think is a great reel at a reasonable price. If you can afford a Sol, Fuego or Steez then so much the better, but they will all catch bass.

Justy I couldn’t agree more, I used to be a cyclist yes that’s rite a cyclist I’m over weight and under paid a few shits behind my meals but anyway all my kit on my bike was Shimano and I don’t think you could get better components in the day. I have used Shimano Reels in the passed and have had no problem with them they are good and if you can go that root then hey why not? I did enjoy the debate though. Quantum is still for me and until I get a sponsor for Shimano I will not have them.
