Use your Kill Switch! - PDV - 01-09-2012 Another of those tragic accidents! 2012/01/02 11:03:58 PM NEWS24 Johannesburg - Three people died on the Bronkhorstspruit dam in a freak boating accident after the pilot of their boat fell overboard. Beeld reports that Mr Eddie dos Santos (42) lost control of his boat and fell overboard when he tried to turn too sharply to pick up his step daughter Claudia Barros-Botha (25) and her husband Gawie Botha (29) who had fallen off an inflatable chair. The two youngsters who died in the incident were Ramon da Costa (17) and his friend Mikaela de Araujo (16). They had been on the boat when dos Santos lost control. They apparently fell off. The boat then charged uncontrolled in circles, tragically going over the two youngsters and dos Santos. Officials of the Catamaran Club raced to the scene but were only able to rescue the Bothas alive. Dawn, the wife of dos Santos, collapsed when she was told of the tragedy. She could not believe he was dead and called on him to wake up. It was a terrible sight according to Mr Barry Page a safety officer at the dam. Pilots of speed boats are supposed to have a cord attached to their life vest and to an emergency switch to prevent just such an accident from happening. :blue-sad: - plasticman - 01-09-2012 Yes PDV, It is really sad,I red the blog replies,it seams they were on the water quite often while under the influence of alcohol :blue-sad: - smurf - 01-09-2012 A tragedy like this is so preventable if you take the basic precautions...a kill switch has the appropriate name,so use it at EVERY instance the motors are running...your fun in the sun can quickly turn to tragedy by being careless. :blue-sad: |
