Wrong advice ? - VX70 - 07-27-2006
In the SABass mag there was a question about help with some dvd and books for a beginner. They answer him on point 2 to go fishing as much as he can and to keep his mouth shut and his eyes and ears open. Now I wonder how that guy will learn if we all had to follow that advice who will one learn ??
Maybe we can get a add in the SABass, they would like us !

In a previous issue they also suggested joining a club, club fisherman are tha cagiest bunch of anglers you can meet. Secrets this, secret that. This site is honestly thee most useful resorce for any basser, newbie or pro.

I was about to join a club and the advice I got from my friendly advisor was NOT to join for reason you guys talk about? the guys being cagey etc? and then there is the issue of not being able to fish 3 weeks before their competitions (for points) and that pretty much nukes 2 months of prime fishing time as well!
The article should say join <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.bassfishing.co.za">www.bassfishing.co.za</a><!-- w --> and talk to the boys online where you will learn TONS! For me it has been the single best resource I could ask for! And if I haven?t said thank you lately? thanks to Bassmaster for the site and all the great advice and chats for all the members.

well gentlemen... unfortunately i will have to disagree.... I joined a club just over a year ago and from what I can make out, it sounds to be almost a unique club where there is no cagieness, alot of commeraderie, good atmosphere and we all share what was working where and when.... we all have a passion for bass fishing and we're committed to bass preservation.... I have not had any bad experiences with our club and I'd recommend joining one.... robfisher, you are more than welcome to attend one of our club meetings as a guest and see for yourself first hand what a club is like instead of other ppls bad experiences..... I have seen bad attitudes and the cagieness you speak of guys, at comps, but not in the club I belong to.... You can pm me for info robfisher as the club is not too far from where you stay!!!

you guys are right.
i got (those days) South west african colours for PAP GOOING.
WE were a great bunch of guys.
got hooked on bassing after i got my colours.
Never joined a bass club, but did in Jan....MY MAN, these guys are wingnuts, even in my club they wont tell what they catch on. Or they flat out lie..................
THEY PUT LITTLE JACKETS OVER THERE LURES For the love of god. you must be kidding. So me and my partner just have a good ole laff at these guys.

Guys.....my 2 cents worth is that you got it wrong !!
I joined a bass club in '86 and still benefit fron the information shared.
Club guys will generally share, but my experience is that most divisional angler won't give you s#@t.
I've fished at both levels and have benefitted far more from club level anglers.

I've been a member of a club for about 5 years and I will never look back. I agree with Seeker that SOME of the divisional guys are not very keen on sharing, but for the most part, we learn alot from one another. Unfortunately there will be some politics in any club you decide to join. But if you can handle that, Joining a club is a great idea.

I think what the editor meant with that comment was that you should try to learn as much as possible from others and not get involved in the shady world of Bass fishing politics, for those of you who dont know anything of this world thank your lucky stars and prepare for it because at some point you will encounter it especially when joining a club.
Trust me it does exist and i have seen, been abused, used and profited from it. All in all i reject the club theory, not because there is anything wrong with a club but because i have always loved the friendship side of Bass fishing and clubs tend to be very clickie.
Each to his own i say, if you enjoy being part of some little partisan group of gossipers then go ahead and join a club. If not then fish the Cast 4 Cash or BETT and remain a member of bassfishing.co.za and make new friends all the time!

I have recently joined a club, the members seemed very friendly and claim to share, but I suppose the proof is in the pudding. I should not generalise about all clubs just from chatting to a couple of people. If I have my boat back I will be partaking in my first club comp in two weeks and I am really looking forward to fishing with and chatting to new people.

What club you joined Rob ? I'm also thinking about joining a club soon !
