Long time since I have posted something here!

Can anyone guide me perhaps WRT Clan....

I have recently gotten myself a small boat and would like to launch there to target some smallies 

What are the dos and dont's?
Permit needed? 
Price of permits and launch?
Launch area any good? My boat is small and light and I usually launch her with my Cross Polo (Trailer has extendable arm)
I have a skippers and boat is registered for Cat R.
Any good places there to camp and fish for a weekend?

I've read several times in these forums how kurper, in their myriad forms, are the main forage for bass in many of our dams. I've found that between imitating kurper, juvenile bass and crabs I'm pretty much set most of the time. The only exception would be Florida Lake i guess, that place is full to the brim of those perch.

What i cant seem to find is really in-depth information on kurper(all info is generally related to catching them). I tried searching, but couldn't find any real information about when and where they spawn, their habits when young through to adult sizes and such. I know kurper like vegetation and warm water, but that's about as far as my experience with them goes.

Any info from the seasoned veterans would be helpful.

PS.  It's such a petty that all the old photos in posts are unavailable.

There is a nice little dam close to my house that I want to put some fish in. It's an irrigation pump dam but has water throughout the year. They flushed it last year and the fish all went into the much larger dam below (100m away), so currently there aren't any fish in it.

I want to restock it with some bass or bluegill from the bottom dam.

Do I introduce the bluegill first and let them settle / spawn for maybe one season or should I just introduce the bass? There are plenty of frogs and other things for the bass to eat so don't think a couple bass will clean up the food supply. The idea will be to have a lunker pond with just big bass, I will cull the small ones by taking them back to the bottom dam.

I used to fish KBT's on the Froggy v boat then later upgraded to the Pisces. I unfortunately had to sell it back when i was still a student and needed money for books (whihc also ended my KBT days and bass fishing in general)

Anyway i am working now and KICKING (get it) myself that i sold my pisces because i see they are quite a bit more expensive now.

Was wondering if anyone perhaps have a spare one laying around that they are willing to part with or can point me in the direction of a cheaper alternative / know of someone selling a second hand one.

What a sight to fish it at 100% level.

I did notice a strange phenomenon in the water.

Most of the dams seems to have white conffeti like polution suspended in all levels of the water. I did notice the water closer to the dam wall was a lot cleaner with a lot less of this. I gather due to the sluices being open and the polution being drawn out. Some people say it might be a type of algae but I have not seen it before.

Does any know what it is. Apart from that a lot of areas had the typical green algae. Actually more than we see normally which is a bit of pain as you have to constantly clean your baits.]]>

As some of you might know, the whole concept of the P.I.F. is to gather old, unused and unloved items of fishing gear - not only gear, but hats, shirts, caps, rods, reels, line or whatever. 

I have a small collection of lures and rods (about 40 packs and 3 rods) at the moment which I am gathering for the bigger picture. 
The intention is to fleece the entrants into the nationals for their un-used, unwanted items to add to the pot. 

Now for those who dont know what we do with the goodies, its quite simple really: We give it to someone that is in need of the gear, to carry on with the sport of bass fishing. We dont give it to juniors up and coming, they have parents for support. But we do look for candidates that cant afford gear, and give it to them - even if it is a junior. But the key here is people that cant afford it. 

In the past we had a few worthy recipients: One was a gent that had recently (at the time) lost his job, and got divorced because it it. He could barely support his 2 small kids when they visited him, and so we gave him the gear to use to take the kids fishing when they did visit. He personally came to my house to collect the goodies, and a few of the BFSA members were there at the time. A few beers and a teary eye later he was on his way to spend quality time with his kids. 
The second recipient was a gent from clanwilliam - a local resident of the small town that worked for Rooibos tea. He has this super small tub with a 5hp on the back of it and loved fishing to every sense of the word. His place was broken into about 3 weeks prior to a Winter Classic and all his gear was stolen. Due to this he couldn't enter the comp anymore. Smurf (another old member) brought it to my attention and we gathered the troops to have a P.I.F. campaign for him. Lo and behold we got a sizeable amount of goodies for the gent, and he was able to compete in the Winter classic, and to say the least, he did very well in the comp - even beating me... 

So, who can donate goodies? 
@Rip - you still got some gear from the last time? Maybe you can get it to one of the Stutt guys going to the Nats to bring it to Jhb for me? 

You're all welcome to add to the discussion below if you can help out, or even if you know of someone that is in need of a helping hand. 
If you want to help, and are not in Johannesburg, dont worry, we have a wide network of people that can help to gather the gear or transport to the next recipient.

• Weigh in station open all day both days, but for visitors you can expect a flurry of the main bunch coming in anytime between 15h30 and 16h00. (Cut off time is usually 16h00)
  
• Pre-fish cut off is midnight on sunday 13th
  
• Visitors welcome, but for those a tad far away to pop in, you can follow the weigh in on http://www.weighmasters.net
