Need advice, carp dying

Hi everyone. I know this is a bass fishing forum but I am hoping for some advice urgently please.

Friends of ours own a farm with 2 dams and said we could come carp fishing in the one on condition we transfer the fish we catch to the smaller dam because he would like some more fish in there.

The first day we fished we transferred one fish, the same the second day and om the third day we transferred 3. On the 3rd night though, about an hour after adding 2 of the 3 fish and coming back to transfer the final one we noticed fish floating and thought they had died either from water that was toxic or the change of environment (water temp etc that the transition was too fast). So we told the farmer we will not be transferring more fish because 4 of the 5 had died. They agreed and said we were still welcome to catch and release then into their larger dam.

This evening we went fishing again for the first time since then and caught 2 fish (about 20min apart), bringing them in quickly, removing the hook with a pair of pliers and in 15-20 seconds having them back in the water and off they swam, no problem. We caught the last one about half an hour before going home. As we packed up to leave, we noticed a fish floating in the water, still alive but barely. Went to see if we could help it but it died. A couple of minutes later the second one started floating. I am so confused and know it is not something we did wrong because we went fishing this past weekend, caught 20+ fish with the same baits and techniques and handled the fish in the same way, getting them back into the water quickly and those were all fine, we fished for the whole morning, no problem. So I am at a loss. I love the sport, but it really puts a damper on things when the fish you catch keep dying. I am totally clueless though, what could it be killing the fish? Is it possible that they are just dying from shock? If so, why would these be so sensitive compared to other dams we fish at? Please, does anyone have any suggestions?

Rear Diff - 4x4 Bakkie

Hi Guys

as we all are fisherman here and most of us have bakkies, and when launching our boats our back of our bakkies go into water.

I have just had my diff go, as seems i had water get into it via the breather valve. Does anybody have the same problem and do something about it to stop water getting into diff? or just need to get diff oil changed more often.

As my nissan navara says i should only go into 45cm of water. now when launching a boat, i know my diff goes all the way into the water. i am sure a lot of us have to put more of the bakkie in the water then we want.

when they emptied diff, just have milky grey liquid and water drops. Can send pics if people want.

just checking if other people had a similiar problem.

Froggy tube for sale

Petition to save the largies (yellowfish)

This was mentioned in one of the bass mags. It's a petition to save the largemouth yellowfish from a government netting program in the Vanderkloof Dam. Smallmouth yellowfish are the targets of the netting program but largemouth yellowfish will also be caught in the process. Largies can take 7 years to reach breeding age at a weight of just over 2 kg. Check this one of 11.5 kg, estimated to be around 40 years old, which was recently caught on fly:

In December I had a great opportunity to go fishing for tuna with a friend of mine who has a boat. Well it was actually for yellow tail, but as luck would have it the tuna were around and it was like a national geographic documentary with the fish busting up on bait balls all over the place. I get goose bumps just thinking about it.

The fish weighed in at around 60kg and took a 4hrs to land. Partly because we had no idea how big it was and the line we had on was pretty light 90lb odd. We also had no harness and therefore battled to get any leverage on this fish... I had to share the duties with my friend I was just not fit enough for this fish, we had to take turns of 45mins each. We had a massive shark pitch up twice so we had to let the fish take about 100m and then drive the boat away from the shark. We also had to battle with seals which we successfully deterred with a kettie and steel ball bearings. I was a bit frustrated at the time it took because while we fought this fish the bait-ball action just continued around us, we could have caught a bunch of fish that day. But hey I'm not complaining it was my first tuna and an experience I will never forget. I felt like I was no Wicket Tuna.

We were unprepared for the first lot of tuna that popped up and I was too excited to sit an rig a big stick that i picked up my dropshot rod I was using for yellow tail ....As I picked the rod up I said to my mate Mark "this is a big mistake, i hope a small one grabs it!" but alas a buss of a tuna latched on and it practically burned my reel out...

I then rigged up the big stick with the same green fluke that the tuna could not leave alone and was vas on the first cast and an epic battle ensued.....

Got a whatsapp this morning with pics of a European Perch caught in a local popular DWA dam. Apparently the catchment has lots of them??

From further investigation, it would appear that Florida Lake has a lot of them and so do areas around Swellendam in the Cape.

Can anyone confirm?

I know a lot of Bass fisherman is going to the warmer waters of Mosselbay, Knysna and Plett. I Thought I would post 3 cool vids of people catching some fish in the lagoons.
I used to catch a lot of fish with my bass tackle in those areas when I still lived there.

You really can have a lot of fun on some nice light bass tackle. Just remember to rinse with fresh water afterwards.

Yes Yes Its a bass site i know i know - I'm no Carp fisherman - promise - please bare with me - there is a point to this.

So a good friend of mine asked me to help him remove carp (Filthy creatures) from his trout dam in Franschhoek - People know you catch bass and immediately think you can catch any swimming thing!

Not going to make a long story about this. Armed with my 6'6 Sellus rod and Shimano spinning reel with 4.5kg line and some stuff the guy at Somerset Sports told me will work - I caught +- 30 carp biggest probably over 8kg. (Hehehe how do carp fisherman do a report back??? I cast, then caught one, then cast again then caught another one :twisted: )

I doubt I made a dent in the carp population. He is now thinking of introducing Bass to eliminate the 100's of small carp. You guys think it will work? Probably wipe out the trout at the same time? The trout that I have seen (and caught) in his dam is relatively big 1.5 - 2.5kg. Opinions?

P.S. Obviously all the carp was killed and given to the farm workers. :eusa_dance:
And NO I'm NOT converting to carp fishing. The have one or two strong'ish runs and then its like guiding a big plastic bag full of water to the side.

Hi guys. I saw a post about people being scammed and thought I would share my recent experience, so others wont fall victim.

last year I took my nissan hardbody to O&J car sales in Claremont to be sold on consignment for R65K. I instructed the owner of the business not to move the car off the premises until I was paid for the sale of the bakkie.

the Bakkie stood there for a while and I was notified that a buyer was interested. a few days later I was driving to Montague Gardens and saw my bakkie driving with poly carb pipe and ladder on it, going to work. I freaked out and went to see this facker Mr Khan at O& J car sales. He says he had sold the car and the money will be in that week. lets just say I am still waiting..... and after many many phone calls and tense encounters with this asshole, trying not to rip his head :bluegrab: off his festering criminal body, till I can feel the life drain from his face. Also having no help from the Claremont police station down the road, being told that I need to take the matter to small claims court where the value exceeds the maximum limit for cases. Pretty sure something fishy is going on between police and this dealerhsip \ Crime syndicate.

Later I did some digging and though my insurance (who wont pay out as a deal was made between myself and the dealer) that My car was with a plumbing company that bought it, and are waiting for the papers that I kept until I received payment. Got hold of the people and explained the situation, they have been told that the papers are coming from the bank.... :eusa_boohoo: this is BS and the lies and deception continue.

I dig deeper and find that this guy takes deposits from countless people for a car and supposedly arranges finance, never gets the finance and takes their deposit. This has gone on for years... I was clever by, not giving him the papers till payment although he spun BS saying the money is in and I must bring papers. Other people have not been that clever and have no leg to stand on cops have done nothing and the justice system is only helping this asshole as he plays the system to take advantage of innocent victims. SO now the matter rests on the a court date witch may never come all the while I grow more and more facked off.

SO now you know why I have been so scares on the water, as I have lost allot of money and my tow vehicle.

SO Please steer clear of "O&J car sales" on Chichister road Claremont. :evil:
