How to remove and replace those Split rings ???

Guys, Help, Asseblief, I'll klap myself over the head later.

I want to remove the treble hook and replace it with a single hook, The Split ring is the problem.

I could just cut off the existing one , but then I would still have the problem,

How do I attach a new split ring, I just cant seem to find a way to open them .

Meercat Lure

On a Westcoast trip to view the flowers with my gran we saw quite a few meercats.

Got me thinking : “If the SPRO Rat works why won’t a meercat?!”.

So I stole a fur hat from Gran and covered a garlic aresol can (that way when the bass bite the garlic flavour releases automatically).

It’s about 10 inches + the another 8 inches for the tail and swims like a fury turd.

Can’t wait to throw it this weekend.

Ok, so Spring is coming soon and many will be throwing topwater lures bedonderd for some of those hungry pre-spawn females. topwater lures I suppose can be classified into the following groups:

propbaits
buzzbaits
poppers
stickbaits
jerkbaits

Now what about plugs, not the floating popper type that we are used to but a proper plug that the okes gooi for shad, yellowtail, kingies etc? It sinks but you have to get the action right if you want it to walk on the top and be a proper wounded wakebait type of lure. it's more difficult to master than walking the dog as you need a constant retrieve of the right speed and angle and the action is killed very quickly if you change something.

This is what I am talking about: A chiselnose type of plug which some anglers would refer to as spinning......

I have made a short clip on a few fish caught on the Falcon CARA Amistad (7'3" H), the Sunline FX2 50lb Braid, and a selection of SPRO and Snagproof frogs. These are the products that I have reviewed before in my Outdoors365 Frogging tackle review.

"So, part two of the Outdoors365 tackle review I thought I would do on Frogging. Outdoors365 supply a huge range of tackle which caters for this specialized technique including line, rods and baits.

Sunline FX2 Frogging and Flipping Braid doing its job

One of the products that I tested for the first time was the Sunline FX2 Frogging and Flipping braid. This product was developed by Sunline and Dean Rojas (only the best frog fisherman in the world!!!!) to come up with a braid that is perfectly suited to specifically frogging but flipping as well. The key part of this braid is the fact that when you hit a fish or apply pressure, the braid doesn’t bury itself into the braid on the spool, which causes overwinds on the next cast, like other braids. The reason for this is that the FX2 frogging braid is not oval like other braids, but round. I fished the 50lb braid, and it was truly AWESOME!!! On one day, I caught more than 25 fish on the frogs alone, and I didn’t have to retie once. The style of fishing lends itself to getting hung up in overhanging bushes etc while fishing when skipping the bait under obstacles, and knowing that the braid can still perform without needing to be changed is insane!!! I would have had to change flouro at least 10 to 15 times if it had been put through the same torture.

It casts beautifully and like all braids, it floats, which is what you want when fishing topwaters like frogs. One of the biggest advantages to fishing braid is the ability of the braid to get fish out of heavy cover. Unlike flouro, braid cuts through vegetation like grass and lilies and gets fish out better than any other line. Plus, owing to the fact that it has no stretch, the initial hard hookset gets the fish coming towards you out of the cover and towards the boat, another great advantage when fishing frogs and flipping. Plus it doubles as a great flipping/pitching braid, owing to the fact that it doesn’t bury itself every time you apply pressure.

Most hookups are with both hooks so landing fish isn't a problem!!

The actual baits I used included the Snagproof bobby’s perfect frog, the Snagproof bass kicker frog, SPRO bronzeye frog and popping frog, and the NEW BIG BITE BAITS Floating toad. I caught fish on all of them. I personally enjoy the Snagproof frogs the most, if I can get away with it as I find them softer and therefore have a better strike to land ratio in my book, but it certainly doesn’t stop me from picking up a SPRO frog and catching fish on it, especially the SPRO popping frogs as they provide a different profile and appeal owing to the concave surface on the head of the bait.

On one of the frogs, I caught over 25 fish alone in one day and it is still perfect. The frogs may seem expensive initially, but when you think about it, they work out as really good value for money when you consider how many fish you can catch on one. I know that Billy has caught over 100 fish on one specific frog. . .insane!!!!!

I was keen to test out the BBB Floating toad, a “horny toad/ribbit frog” style bait, like the BBB Top Toad, but when killed, it floats, unlike the abovementioned frogs. This means that the frog can be fished with a continuous retrieve gurgling and bubbling on the surface, but when a fish boils on it or misses the bait, it can be killed and floats in the strike zone. It can also, however, be fished like a SPRO or snagproof frog, with a twitch/pause retrieve. It is therefore a great middle ground between the usual buzzing frogs and a SPRO/Snagproof frog.

The last product that I tested again while frogging was the Falcon CARA Amistad rod. I have mentioned this rod a few times before as a pitching and frogging rod, and is a beast of a rod!! It has so much power and its very light for its power that it has. This rod can really pull fish out of the thickest stuff!!! It was specifically designed for muscling big bass out of cover like at lake Amistad, and boy can it do that!!!!! I am finally totally sorted for frogging and completely satisfied and confident in my tackle. I am very much looking forward to getting on the water and hitting some big bass on frog!!

Weve been out at the local club dam and and been fishin till 7pm. Its a dam full of hydrilia, and you really be able to cast deep as the shallower parts next to the shore is matted with the hydrillia. So what I like to do is put on a big spinnerbait and cast it as far in as possible. Normally I catch my decents size bass really deep.

That is what works generally except yesterday as nothing really hit it. I cant cast any plastics deep enough to clear the thickly matted hydrillia and you really need to have 20lb line as a decent bass does take your lure underneath the green stuff and you need to be able to winch it out of there.

So next best thing I do is put on a lekker topwater frog. I can cast it really deep and it just floats over the thick mats of cover. Unfortanatly we are not allowed a boat on the club dam so thats about the best tacktics I can think of to haul the fish out.

I own 2 frogs, ones a big 5 inch collapsable black frog and then a inch pink (mofgat) frog. The fish really go for them but I struggle to get the hook set. The bigger frog they hit so hard that it hops out of the water but they cant get to swallow it. The mofgat (small pink frog) I cant cast far enough and they dont go for it as much but its a struggle getting the hook set.Out of 7 hits you probbaly land only 1.

I want to know, what is the propper technique for frogging. Do you strike the second they hit it? do you wait few seconds for them to swim off with it and then set the hook?

Ive also heard guys bend the hooks out a little.

Any advice on frogging would be appreciated.

Hi Guys,

i have a sensation 7ft mh rod for worming. I have a devil spook i want to throw during the spawn and i believe the correct technique is "walk the dog" but from one of the postings yesterday i noted that a shorter rod is better to get this action right. any tips for me on this one?
