Hello everyone! I'm just starting to get my account set up, so bear with me for a few days. I live in Morehead, Kentucky and have been fishing most of my life, thanks to my grandfather. I live about 15 minutes away from Cave Run lake (pretty tough bass fishing, but great musky fishing - even though I don't fish for those toothy bastards I still end up catching one every once in a while). I do a little bit of local tournament angling and try to get to as many different lakes as I can throughout the year (mostly in Kentucky and Tennessee).

Many of you may be asking why this crazy American has infiltrated our web site. Well, the love of my life is one of your native treasures. She came over to get her Master's degree and, well, I guess the rest is history. She lives in Port Elizabeth and is currently there as a teacher. We're working on all of the visa paperwork right now so that she can come back and we can get married. I'll be over for about 3 weeks (mid-December through early January) and am very excited to visit South Africa. It will be my first time to your beautiful country, and definitely not the last.

Nicola had never fished before she met me and she was very surprised when I told her that there was bass fishing in South Africa! Since then she has been on the water with me several times and has begun to get more interested. We are looking at trying to get on the water once while I'm over and I'm hoping to get some info on good places to go, etc.

I have a Facebook account that has a bunch of fishing photos, just look for Brian S. Mason. I'm glad to be here and looking forward to getting involved on the site!

Welcome to the website! I hope you enjoy and have as much fun as we all do. There are a few guys who know that area fairly well and should be able to let you know of some good fishing spots.

If you are in Cape Town during your visit give me a shout and we can go fishing... :blue-biggrin:

A very warm welcome Brian! If you get a chance you should try and get to Durban when you visit… we have Inanda Dam which has to be one of the finest dams in SA! Now if I could only retire full time and build a mud hut and dock on the edge of the dam!

Thanks for the warm welcome! :blue-cool: I'm a complete idiot when it comes to Rugby (typical American), but Nicola was partying pretty hard with the rest of SA last weekend! I'm sure that I'll be learning a lot more about rugby and cricket.

The exact plans for my trip are still being developed, but Nicola says that we will probably try to go fishing some time toward the end of my trip (early January) and we'll be in the Cape Town area, and since we know nothing about the lakes in SA, we'll be needing any help we can get - bassmaster - we just might have to take you up on that offer!

If you want to do some decent bass fishing then you need to add Durban to your itinerary… the bass in Cape Town are a little gay and only like pink flukes…. But they do have some very sharp teeth in the Cape…

I'm not to sure of venues in PE but if you get to gangsters paradise let us know :blue-cool:

Hi Brian.

Great to see an international member getting active on the site. Rob Fisher and I agree to disagree with the fact that Albert Falls is a better fishery than Inanda, but if you want to catch fish, your numbers will in almost all certainty be better at Inanda. I think a trip to Durban is a must. I have no worries taking you out on the water and if you can extend your trip by a day or two, I will take you guys out to Imfolozi game reserve to view some African wildlife. I still can't understand why so many international tourists visit SA without entering a game reserve.

We look forward to reading some reports on all the famous US fisheries and lakes we only get to see fished by the pros on ESPN.

Well here's another hearty welcome...
If you guys are in PE just gimme a shout... I stay in St Francis Bay and there is lake just around the corner from me that hold a variety of bass including, Large mouth and Small mouth...

PE is about 88km from me so its pretty close...
Ill even take you on an American built bass boat...

I'm a member of BassBoatCentral.com and there's a lot of great people on there, but from what I've seen so far, you guys are gong to be much more fun to hang with! This is going to be a blast!

I'm going to have to talk with the missus and try and squeeze in another day or two on the water while I'm over! As soon as she lets me know the 'itinerary' I'll let you know and then we can at least get together and drink (if we can't get on the water). If Nicola is a representation of how South Africans can party, we'll have a great time!

That is quite impressive, I always wondered what the overseas websites were like and it seems like BFSA is right up there with them!! Anyway, you will no doubt enjoy your time here and I look forward to our fishing trip when you get here. :blue-smile:
