Okay, an extention on what I first proposed on the showing of the FIRST topic posting ONLY (which would have served the purpose of getting someone curios in wanting to see responses and therefore signing up).... you could always make "x" amount of characters of this first posting available. Therefore only giving them a small glimpse of the question, comment or one of those fabulous reports of month mate.

Say somebody had a lekka day on a dam and posted some pics. Allow outsiders to see the heading..e.g.

Great day on Goedertrou

Or

Kwaggas rocks again..HARD!! :blue-biggrin: :blue-biggrin:

and include the pics under the heading,
But no content..

I would want to read more.. I would subcribe if I see stuff like that and wanted some info. Hell I did.
One fish can change it all.....

I agree, I think August has hit it spot on.
The more I learn about fishing the more I realise
how much more I have to learn about fishing.

Having read the post in this forum, I must agree that 'opening' the site freely would be disaster.....to much irrelevant kak will be posted by "to few that know to much".....

All the above suggestions have relevance and how Bm decides to secure and grow the site we all give him our backing......We are a "Sharing and Caring" site and as a paying member the benefits have been great and the members participation magic.....whether you submit topics or not...we have and others have learnt a lot from everybody's postings.......This is not a "CAPE" site, it is a national/international site and access to bassfishing information is at it's best....

LONG LIVE BFSA..... :blue-biggrin:

Hi All

As one of the non-active members of this site in terms of postings etc, I would like to give my perspective in terms of what i've read thus far. I have joined this site as i started fishing in 2008 but not being a very active person, i like reading and doing research and this is what I get from being on this site.

Firstly, if you want to maintain your exclusivity and for that matter privacy, do not even consider opening the site For that matter why is this even up for debate.
tSome may feel that their knowledge experience, etc may be compromised. You should however know that the less people know about this site, the less new members you will attract. Is it really a matter of attracting new members or maintaining information within a very tight circle.

As a user for free sites as well, the only requirement is that you sign up in order to access information. All the information is freely shared, its a matter of use it dont use in terms of information shared. Also keep in mind different things interest different people, bass fishing is an activity that limits you to only catch fish. Some of the people entering sites such as these may not even be fisherman/anglers but have a genuine interest in the topics and information available. It is up to an individual what he or she feels they would like to contribute.

Also with regard to the "regional affiliation" of membership. this site does have a Cape/Western Cape feel to it as this is where is located and information "driven" from. I have noticed limited inland members. The impression in terms of content and how it is relayed may appear to other regional bassers that is not for them as most the bulk of information, except for general stuff applicable to all, is generated by mostly coastal group. It also has a slightly "clicky" feel to it. You do not want to alienate newcomers to this site but have a rather more inviting approach to integrate newcomers.

even if you should choose to maintain this as a closed site, some amendments can be made to the site to possible improve interaction with all members currently registered.

Bm, i note that you primary goal is not to make money on this site but strategic advertising can be used as a method to attract new members. Income generated in this manner, would just be a bonus that could be used to grow this site/organisation even if you should just make a charitable donation or start a development program for kids etc, like had been suggested in previous postings. this could possibly be used to create a starter kit to be used by all taking kids out to teach them, especially those who feel a bit 'attached" to their personal kit.

perhaps not what everyone would like to hear but just my honest opinion

As a new member, I agree, with Most, dont allow free access, as this brings with it so many additional "issues" I was interested in the posting headings alone, this drove me mad :blue-evil: as I wanted to read more and was not able, so I would tend to lean towards a little more "bait" and those that are really wanting to either read more or contribute then they are the ones that join. :blue-biggrin: :blue-biggrin: :blue-biggrin:

Good Job BM . :blue-biggrin:

i believe there should only be a once off fee to join...i am in a position now where if i dont started being more active my subscription will terminate in a couple days time...so what do i do just type 2 word replies just to get the numbers or loose my membership?

i am not fishing at the moment due to work commitments thats why i have not been posting.

i have enjoyed the time i have spent on this site but only time will tell what happens in the future...i dont plan on putting 2 word replies so lets see what happens.

by the way dont believe for a minute the info you put on this site is for your eyes only and only paying members view this site.

like this moto caring and sharing...people share usernames and passwords...i am very active on many websites but only 2 sites do i use my name or location 95 % of the others i use various alias and dont put my location or give out any personal details...one of the sites i use a different name and details to prevent issues and give me access to places where certain people wouldnt want me to be.

this is the internet so long as you dont make waves...nobody questions...you can be whoever you want to be on the internet....once the username and password is loaded and saved everytime you log on to the site you have access to the site.

Thank you to everyone for the feedback. I really do appreciate it. Ill ponder over the suggestions and see what I can do to attract more people...

Cranky, if you leave your pc open and let others use your account that is a little blind. :blue-cry:

I can't control what people do with their usernames and passwords and just have to trust that people will not share them. If anyone does share this info they are not really all that welcome on the site. If I do find out about it I will also ask that person to leave the website. End of story. It's unethical in anyone’s books I think.
:blue-doubt:

Sorry guys and girls I just can't agree on the theory that opening the site would create a lot of irrelevant posts. The free sites are full of that, the same as happens here from time to time, but they also have plenty of stuff that is cutting edge and that is not seen here, simply because we have a very limited number of contributors. I am not convinced that limiting access has any benefits, on the contrary not doing so would open BFSA up to many other points of view (granted some good and some bad) and a huge variety of other experiences.

I'm not referring to or suggesting a free for all forum like Sealine, but would love to see a wider variety of contributions from other parts of SA and even the world. It took me a long time to pay for access and when I did it was because I met Bergie who convinced me, not because of anything that I saw in the free part of the site. I didn't delay paying for access because I thought that R250 was too much, but simply because there was so much information available out there that is free.
