Looks as though we've opened up a can of worms here, it's good to get this kind of feedback from members. After all this site is what it is because of it's members, let's hear more opinions so that the mods can set some guidelines. We are busy working on a classifieds section, it's a bit complicated to build so is a few weeks away.

What about having an auction setup instead of a standard classifieds section? The seller sets their reserve price and members can bid, that would set a market value for the product....just an idea.

I do agree though that in the interim items for sale should be put in the proper forum.

I do not agree with "old" members may advertice vs "new" members may not. The question that BFSA must ask themselves is - Does BFSA permit advertising yes or no?

That is not what I was trying to imply, VX70 has been a member for ages so he does not have to say he is sorry or guilty. I am also not against people selling stuff on BFSA as you can pick up a bargain sometimes.

To answer your question Ninja, if you are trying to advertise your business and have never even been on the site before then NO, it is not ok. For example Cranky sells pontoon boats and has been here for ages as well, he took ages to post anything about his boats for sale. Then a new members comes on and straight away puts up one post about his pontoon boats for sale I think is a bit out of line. 9 times out of 10 members have at least asked me first if they can put up a post like that. It is like me walking into a tackle shop I have never been into before and putting up a poster to buy Yamamoto products from BFSA online. Do you think it is ok?

And remember 2 of our active members namely Frogstar and Cranky in fact sell them so I was a bit offended by the post, they have contributed much more than the newbie? I am not trying to kak the newbie out but etiquette comes to mind. And his items were also new, not second hand like most items that are sold here.

Anyway, we are working on a system that will allow people to sell their unwanted items soon.

The question isBig Grinoes this forum wish to have place to post items for sale or not?The answer is a definite 'yes',whether one finds these items under a topic/thread or in the 'For Sale' option does not matter, but a Sale section would be good. One cannot penalise a new member for not having posted on the site and allow another because he has aired his view often...you are a member, and if you are a 'newbie' or old dog (like CBC and Bergie !),you have the same status.I bet we all check what is for sale when you see a posting advertising something...there is nothing 'in your face' unless you opt to put it there.I think it is an excellent forum for newer anglers to glean information as well as pick up some good used items to help them along the slippery way of bass angling.I do not think it is the place to advertise non angling things like Michael Jackson's sequined jacket and white glove, but related items and services should be promoted and welcomed (with the exception of bass receipies of course :blue-lolSmile

Am for selling stuff on site, but I feel where most of the longer standing members have a issue is with the following. BFSA is a comunity website. And a lot of members have worked hard and spent a lot of time and effort to keep the community feel about it. This WILL be lost with some random post selling stuff.
I say keep the ads of the forum board. May a similar forum board on the right hand side for ads. If someone like cranky wants to post something on their products on the forum page by all means, so as to let us know what's on offer etc, but leave the outright busines talk to the sale section that we then post on thew right.

The that you got to ask yourself is what is it about BFSA that makes you always come back. To me above all the knowledge and wisdom being shared on the site, and the good deals you get, its the cummunity feel and the friends made.

Anyone of the newbies can be my new best friend in a couple of moths time, or can be another great reportback writter or contributers, so we need to take them in and make them part, but at the same time make sure we protect the essence of BFSA

Just an idea - maybe put that in the forum rules.
