Rosendal dam

going to rosendal dam friday morning.. anyone been there lately? any useful tips for the dam?

hi stevo, not much happens there, i personally havent caught a bass there but apparently the bass their are really small and hard to catch, but ive heard june bug jnr fluke works

Where about is Rosendal dam? (is it on a wine estate?) Please post some photos and report back on the activity you find there. I'm sitting in Clanwilliam, the dam is full, the weather is hot and some guys are spearfishing smallies (all 2kg+)...

howit stevo.i live right down the road from rosendal go fishing there everyday for bass.there are only about 2 month old bass and are tiny no big bass it will be a waste of time if you are going for the non-existent big bass the biggest i caught since the spawn is about the size of a coke tin.You have to use really small bait bute as small as they are they still give a nice fight :blue-biggrin:

Spearfishing inland waters is illegal you should have them arrested I would personally lasso those bastards and tow them around the dam at 110kph

so i went to rosendal yesterday... tough day.. but managed 2 decent sized.. about1.2kg at least..

spoke to a dude who was fishing at a hectic ace around the dam..like speed fishing.. :blue-question: anyway..he said he caught lots the previous week but had no luck yesterday..

caught the two on watermelon red plastics..

will def go back, a decent spot to wet some line

My point exactly!! I can understand when people catch & kill fish to survive (feed their families etc) but I'm not sure what their reasons where, sad to see such beauties taken out...

Are there any facilities around? Hypothetically, would the wives be able to join? My wife really enjoys bass fishing, and has her own setup. So always looking for decent little spots that are safe and clean.

no facilities there.. not a huge dam.. but safe though..

are there any other dams close that you can actually fish in? not magic forest or door de kraal.. ?

Very small dam. Water's quite polluted. Then again most waters are polluted in CT. Apparently there was a spill of some kind at Rosendal a while back and most bass died. Seems they've spawned lekker now.

Not many places to fish in that area. Magic forest does hold some very big bass...just tough to find with all the barbel. Dk also has gooood fish...in winter mostly

The dam didn't completely dry out during the drought which is a miracle for such small piece of water. There was still a bit of life in it when I last visited (before winter) so I guess the fish should be fine. Not sure about the bass stock but the blue gills seem to be doing ok so at least there is some food.

Went to DK last weekend on a Saturday morning. Very pressurized dam though, lots of kickboaters on the water. managed to land 3, 1 being a decent 1KG - healthy bass. Lots of watergrass though.
