HI All

I'm from switzerland and new on this site. As every year i visit southafrica and stay this time near knysna. I already learned about lake pleasant near sedgefield, but i can imagine fishing pressure is pretty high there. On google earth i've seen a lot of ponds and dams around knysna, can anybody give me some info if they are accessible? What is the security situation in general? Are there crocs around (probably a stupid question)? I saw there are many golf courses around, does it have bass in those ponds, too?

Thank you in advance

Not any crocs around that area that I am aware of. Not too much pressure on Groenvlei either as it always delivers when I get there 1 - 2 times a year.

One thing to be careful of at Groenvlei is wind. If you get on the wrong side of the lake on trolling motor only it is very common to run your deep cycle down.

I am led to believe you can rent a small electrically powered boat at Groenvlei.

Groenvlei and Island lake
One fish can change it all.....

Island Lake allows outboards. I think it is probably the only place where you have the chance to hook either a bass or a Garrick (leervis)

Lake pleasant AKA Groenvlei is going to be your best bet as golf courses are a bit funny when it comes to fishing....

I was at Lake Pleasant on sunday and caught plenty of fish i stopped counting at 50.. so it is not overly pressured.

Generally the farm dams have bass in however it is always best to ask for permission to fish them.

Very interesting B/Mad. I am looking for a 3 to 4 day getaway - I was thinking of Clanwilliam but Groenvlei sounds like an idea.
How big were the bass and what were they taking?

Thank you all! Will try out lake pleasant and island lake. If you can catch Garrick in island lake, is the water brackish or do they survive in sweet water, too? Do you know where i can possibly rent a boat on those two lakes?

Most lakes around that area is quit brackish as they are all very close to the sea.

The bass were mostly in the range of 600 grams to a kilo... we did drop some nice ones mainly due to me "sleeping" some nice size fish in the 2kg mark have come out in the last few weeks. they were hitting any watermelon fluke both junior and normal size ones on weightless aswell as senkos and topwaters such as a spook or frog.

Megabass you can rent a boat from the campsite at lake pleasant however you wont be able to cover the whole lake with it, but that isn't too much of a problem as the bank next to the highway holds fish which isn't a long distance away
