Greetings all you fresh water fundies.
I've been living in Benoni for about 15 years and need to get fishing again. I used to fish in the Natal Light Tackle Boat League about 20 odd years ago & miss wetting a line now & then.
I know Zip about fresh water fishing, only that I'm not interested in shoving some pap on a hook & gooiing it into a dam with a red & white 'policeman' bobbing away, settling down in a deck chair & getting plastered in the heat. No Thank You!
My favourite form of fishing was spinning for shad with a 9ft rod (Sealy Blank) & a 6" KP reel 20lb line & a 4oz spoon. Bass fishing to me sounds the closest to that & looks like great fun.
Anyone in the East rand area willing to show this ole guy a thing or 2 at some stage?

Welcome to the site Steamer...I am am sure a East Rander will rush to you rescue soon. In the meantime please update your profile so the guys in your area can see exactly where you are from. Bass fishing is great fun and highly addictive.

Thanks for the welcome guys! I've updated my profile a little but don't quite understand a couple of the fields. I think that this is the most exciting stage of any passtime, where I'm open to a huge learning process which I hope will be assisted by some of you old salts.

Sorry, I omitted to say that I don't have any craft and am just starting out to collect fishing gear. So far, a 7ft Penn Power tip rod & a 5" Keith Palmer reel with 8.45kg Awa Shima line. No doubt I'll be shot down in flames for even thinking of using a centre pin type scarborough reel, but hey, I'm really 'old school' & enjoy overhead casting.

Whatever rocks you boat Steamer...Eureka if have finally figured out what KP on the side of a reel stands for...always thought it had something to do with politics :blue-badgrin:

Ja Narvic, The KP is pretty much endemic to Natal, otherwise know as a "ball race" amongst other derogative names. I am told the KP factory burnt down a year or so ago & no more are being made. :blue-sad: I'll probably end up with a bait cast reel.
