Zand Vlei fishing

hi guys

does any1 know if ur allowed to fish zandvlei caravan park side

was ther today trying out some lures and a local tunned me of nature conservation that will confiscate my tackle

I've got fresh water and salt water angling permits.

regulations changes so much ther....I believe no live bait and no fishing at night

as long as you have a saltwater permit you'll be fine.
no live bait or night fishing, and i've heard rumours about no trebles either, but don't think that's true.
apparently you're not allowed to fish at the mouth either... only north of the bridge.

You are allowed to fish on the caravan park side. At the caravan park itself you need to pay an entry fee to access the braai area shore.
No trebles , no live bait, no fishing at the mouth, no bait collection, no throw nets, no snagging, access between sunrise and sunset or as determined by law enforcement eg. Sewage spill hazards. Saltwater angling permit required. Catch and release of indigenous fish requested. (This will become mandatory in the near future as well as the use of barbless hooks.) This is shown on signage around the vlei. Mountain Men Security patrols at night looking for poachers. Recently a guy with gill nets was caught at 4 in the morning. Currently the book is being thrown at him as an example.

Been fishing this piece of water for years and its really a great place.

Yes the COT is at least trying to protect the vlei under difficult conditions. It really is a case of too little manpower and not enough funding. The dredging operation completed about a month ago was aimed at deepening the main channel near the duckpond in an effort to get more sand scoured out by the tide. 1 week of operation amounted to R 300 000.

Good things take ey, i think this is good and can just get better...
Didnt even know about the dredging, this could be a good thing fishing wise, just hope the locals stick to the rules and release...
