- robfisher - 05-22-2008 OK Ruffy... just go to the message above and select EDIT and type in any info you want to! Boom! - Hawkeye - 05-22-2008 Thanks Drew Ruffy now THAT'S what Im talking about. What a boytjie. Real Kewl Dewd. I am waiting in anticipation for your edit. You're the man :blue-cool: - pomerob - 05-22-2008 Just take a small ultra light bream stick with you on the boat, take half an hour to float an earthworm and that will tell you about the food chain ;-) - tolla - 05-22-2008 i think it is a vary good idea to get cranks and other lures made to match our fish in sa (those dudes that sent the photos might have the samples drew and they will just lie to me and you) but i think the action of the bait sometimes is way more important. - Hawkeye - 05-23-2008 Great feedback, thanks guys, but where do the Carp ,Yellow fish and Barbel fry fit into the food chain. :blue-question: Surely the Bass would feed on these fish species as well, as well as their own, as ruffy has pointed out ( Baby Bass. ) I guess this is where lavender shad comes into play :blue-biggrin: Oh and what about Brown and Rainbow trout. :blue-idea: Do these species co exist in the same "pond" ??I have now taken stock of my cranks and seperated them into 4 Major colours Orange ,Yellow,Green ,Silver. One of the Storm soft plastic fishys has a VERY close resemblance to dwerg kurper - basstid - 05-23-2008 Great forum Hawkeye, this has been a great help. Where can I find pictures like the ones in this forum ? - Ninja - 05-23-2008 Great feedback, this site rocks and I have to agree with the "baby bass" color it is always a winner. I suppose a reaction bite is something completely different to a bass actually looking at a lure that resembles food and then decide to eat it because he is hungry. If that is true, and I'm sure it is, then I take it that any color lure with the right action e.g. jerk bait will work for reaction strikes. Just an observation on bait fish, we all know that there should be some form of feeding frenzy during autumn but we have not seen much of it yet, well I have'nt. Having said that and whilst fishing was tough at Inanda of late Warren nailed a 10 ponder on a conversion two weeks ago and on Tuesday I pulled a DC and nailed a 8 ponder. So it is my teory that during this time the fish do feed more but they want real food so now should be the time to really "match the hatch" and even use swim baits. :blue-rolleyes: - tolla - 05-23-2008 norkie a crankbait might look like our local baitfish , but if it has got the wrong action a fish will not go for it. the way i see a reaction strike, is the way you work the lure, be it a crankbait, stickbait or any lure, there is something in the movement of the lure that will trigger the bass to strike. - robfisher - 05-23-2008 Can I at this point in time mention that cranks don’t work? :blue-biggrin: - basstid - 05-25-2008 Bwahaaa ! Was only a matter of time :blue-badgrin: - Hawkeye - 05-25-2008 Christie Thomas has just done an article on Autumn cranking in June Stywe Lyne.(She also just recently fished the Inanda Bass Classic) Knows her onions ...Sorry I mean Bass :blue-lol: - bassmaster - 05-27-2008 I am not a huge cranker but there are a few things that I try to observe when fishing. For one, what are the bait fish doing? Are they moving around in groups or are they just hanging around a piece of structure? Shallow or a bit deeper. Taking note of this also helps imitating them on any single day. Like tolla said, you may have the correct colour but if the action is not right the bait may not produce. Basically if you match the colour of the bait fish, size and action on that day you are well on your way to catching some foooshies! For less active bait fish try using a jerkbait with a slow jerk and reel action, for more active bait fish a normal crank should be better with an erratic retrieve. This applies to fishing flukes as well... :blue-smile: - pomerob - 05-30-2008 robfisher Wrote:Can I at this point in time mention that cranks don’t work? :blue-biggrin: No you may not, lol. |
