Good to hear from you again :blue-biggrin:
You get your cap from Sean Mills?
Yes maybe we did not all know when this went down, communication I suppose. :blue-rolleyes:
Yeah, it's my lucky cap.
I have to agree that communication is a major problem. Even when the facts are spread across multiple sites, not everyone get's to read them. A lot of the time stories are distorted by word of mouth for one reason or another. The time has come for anglers to speak with one voice and take a bigger interest in what's going on around them.
DID YOU KNOW 41 WESTERN CAPE RIVERS HAVE BEEN TARGETED FOR ALIEN ERADICATION???
I would advise people to visit http://www.facebook.com/41Rivers for accurate info.

Now that's called transparency and "consultative"!
41 Rivers??????????????? - BuzzLiteBeer - 06-22-2012
The number of rivers to be targeted for alien fish management has apparently changed from 41 to 96. https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByolcJh ... lqRVE/edit Please visit http://www.facebook.com/41Rivers for feedback from the latest FAF meeting. HAVE YOUR SAY.
CapeNature are now intending to have a workshop before the end of March 2013 where they will consult with angling organisations via the Freshwater Angling Forum (FAF) to discuss possible conflicts for rivers that are of angling importance.
In the meantime, the only rivers that are on the radar at the moment are the four that were identified during the EIA. No other rivers will be considered before 2015.
Please have a look through the list in the meantime and email me any concerns or issues you have about any of the rivers mentioned. I will send this on to http://www.facebook.com/41Rivers. If you don't send through your concerns then don't be suprised if "your" river is kept on the list to be treated.

Mmmmm, interesting...would suppose that it's a logistical nightmare but that's no logical deterrent, or what??

Let me see now 41 to 96.
I think some one saw a profit to be made.
1.Who is importing the rotenone?
2.What is the mark up the the cost to the selling price.
and how much was used in the first trial???

Coming up on Carte Blanche
On M-Net [101] & M-Net HD [170], Sunday 8 July 2012, at 7pm
Cleaning our Waterways
Worldwide, more than a billion people lack access to safe water and by 2020 it’s estimated that low income countries in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa could experience fresh water scarcity. That’s us... and it seems little is being done about it. Cape Town announced years ago that it planned to clean the City’s fouled up waterways. Carte Blanche checks if anything’s been achieved.

I don't want to say to much about this , had my 10 cents worth of discussion a while ago.
Still not happy about "cleaning our waterways" by poisoning them though ...

I agree that the method used is scary to say the least. As fishermen we have to make ourselves heard regardless of chosen discipline. The next Cape Nature Freshwater Angling Forum meeting is scheduled for 19th March 2013 where the upcoming rivers will be tabled/discussed.

This procedure was explained to us by Olaf Weyl and Dean Impsen last night at the talk held at Alpha angling club in Parow. If more of us had attended this event then none of this stone throwing would be happening. What was explained to those of us that made the effort of being there last night sounded perfectly reasonable and cleared up all our misperceptions. We were shown all the figures of what fish were harvested and there sizes etc to. The biggest bass that was harvested was 28cm with the majority being much much smaller. We were told that the river has already started showing signs of recovery with shoals of baby yellow fish and red fins making their appearences. I would suggest that when an oppurtunity like last night comes around again that all of us that can make it should attend as we that were there learnt a lot. Thanks again to everyone involved in the organisation of last night and getting Olaf and Mike down here to keep us informed and educated.....

I cant agree more with Billy all the whoo haaa about this was for nothing the total weight of the bass harvested in that strech river was 17KG or something and the amount of fish was over 400 if I remeber correctly so it was all dinks and the strech of river was no wider than your living room and will have no impact on bass anglers unless you into catching dinks.

The recovery of the Rondegaat river with yellowfish and red fin minnows is amazing, considering it was treated not so long ago.If the river is to be treated again, what would happen to these indigenous fish ? Are they collected and revived, then reintroduced ?We as conservation anglers must be mindful of the fact that these waterways are for the benefit of ALL to enjoy, and any project that enhances the waterway,be it vegetation clearing or removal of alien species from the system should be regarded in the same light as what we do as bass anglers to preserve "our "specie for our sport. This is not some 'willy nilly' idea from some enlightened conservation officials to get out there and "kill fish"...it is a lengthly study that has highlighted the need to restore certain systems to a fraction of what they used to be,otherwise the fragile ecosystem of these rivers will be altered for good if this intervention is not undertaken. As Billy has already mentioned,a little less stone throwing, get off your soap boxes and get involved in a positive way...you will see how it will benefit even you,the avid bass angler.
