how similar is a split shot - seadog - 09-11-2006

To a mojo rig besides the fact that the mojo will hit the bottom quicker??
is there really Thaaaat much of a difference between the two.

I know the fluke will be a slower presentation on a split shot. but Does it REALLY make that much of a diff, cause youlle almost be fishing the same way...??

Waaaazzzzzuuuuppppp seadog!!!!!

Split shotting makes things alot easier to fish..... You can start by weightless fishing and if you find it takes a long time to get a strike, u might need to get it down to a bit of depth to find the fish.... No retying of knots needed....you can add weight and remove weight as you fish without tying knots the whole time.... The mojo sinker is also alot heavier and doesn't allow as subtle a presentation that a split shot will allow....

Yo fab my bruvva...
Ya, well i was fishing weightless senko. and got alot more of my fish on mojo. maybe i should have gone inbetween the mojo and weightless and thrown split. BUT has it was i was reel them in on a regular basis which was kiff, and there was no need to change.

Besides i know have TRUST in my palomar knot...

ps the baitfish were Skittering all over the place as well. it was an awesome day, and its only gonna get better...

- Fab - 09-11-2006

aish bru...... the fish were "Skittering all over the place" and u were throwing a senko!!!!! What the f.....????? Surface lures, shallow runners, spinner baits........ those are the types of things u should've been throwing..... Active fish like that are hunting and would've chased your lures.... Did u give those a try boet????

I never thought of using split shot? great idea for when I?m in a hurry on the boat and don?t want to mess around with the mojo rig tool? OK off to my local tackle shop to get some?

- seadog - 09-11-2006

I know dude...I only caught one on a rappie. And as i said the fluke was working for me..

But those were all smallish fish, we wanted the pigs. We caught plentsh smallies.

They wanted nothing to do with spinnerbaits, and the due who was throwing top water got hit less than me and my fluke.

It was also hard to throw the rappies cause of the structure , little twigs and stuff all over the place.

- drew - 09-11-2006

Ahhh Seadog.
If you find the structure a bit dense for Rappies, try a lipless crankbait. They are surprisingly good at bouncing off structure without getting snagged. It's not impossible though, but they are certainly better than lipped cranks in this regard

- tolla - 09-11-2006

try something with a big lip , this will make it bump of things, we fish cranks at theewaters in the sticks, try a manns minus 1 crank, they work a treat because they don't dive more than 1 foot down.

split shots - Guest - 09-11-2006

i dont use them, i use pannel pins i just cut them to the size i want it to sink faster or slower ,and they work a treat you can push it in the nose so that it dives head first or in the middle then it sinks straight ,or in the tail and it sinks back wards like a real badly injured bait fish
