Bass tour to USA - Riem - 04-07-2008 Guys, who's interested? Lets approach ESA to act as tour organisers for a tour to USA next year this time! A response to this post will give XT and Andre an indication of the interest! I am keen and will start saving right away! Perhaps ESA can get enough footage of local anglers catching pigs on USA lakes and then some sponsors will also get on board! Looking forward to your replies... - robfisher - 04-07-2008 I’m in! - drew - 04-07-2008 Eish..... Months and months ago, there were people complaining and whining that they were sick of US programmes and wanted to see top local fishermen on local waters. ESA came along and did just that. The quality of their programmes in every respect is outstanding. From clear instructions, to good editing and sound, as well as fish catches... they gave us South African bassers something we wanted for a long time. Now we want to go to the US and get ESA to cover it?? First off, you need to deal with the US as I do on a very frequent basis. We are seen as "That little country on the tip of Africa" Their pool of sponsors are also different in terms of the fact that they are "Out of the box." This is where Halfway Toyota and Nissan have been different in terms of sponsoring SA Bassing. The overwhelming majority of sponsors are fishing related. I'm talking big sponsorship here, not a couple of grand for a once off event. Now, considering that, why would a finance house, or an Auto Parts company sponsor something in SA?? They wouldn't it's as simple as that, and why would the big players in the US sponsor a trip to the US when they have two highly competitive and lucrative tours going there already? Then SA companies sponsoring a trip to the US.... mmm, I don't see that happening in a hurry. It is a misconception amongst non fishing people that bassing is a tiny sport that comprises of two buddies putting along on a tub sized boat with a little tiller arm motor. This is where ESA is doing the business by creating awareness of our sport, and making the general public aware of how big it is, and how big it will get. It would be great to see our friends and locals battling it out in the US, but I'd rather see that sponsorship spread locally first. - robfisher - 04-07-2008 I don’t think we were expecting sponsorship for the trip (but now that you mention it it’s quite a good idea)... all we want is ESA to handle the logistics and each of us would pay our pay. I really like this idea of sponsorship... Mmmm... The mind is working overtime! - robfisher - 04-07-2008 PS and we are sick of USA programs... we love our ESA shows... but we wanna go fish a BIG FISH dam like Falcon Lake and we don’t wanna go to stinking Zimbabwe! - Riem - 04-07-2008 Drew, it was just a thought! Perhaps there are more anglers that wants to do a trip to the US lakes to catch lunkers... I never criticised the ESA shows or their content. :blue-doubt: The pure fact that they are the "new face" of SA Bass angling, made me think they'll be the ideal crowd to co-ordinate such a trip. They do it for the Salt Water guys (remember Kilwa Ruins and their recent trip on the yacht), why not bass? - robfisher - 04-07-2008 I am so in! And we can stop at the closest Bass Pro Shops and buy some Shimano Cumara’s because the agents are not bringing them into SA! - Bassassin - 04-07-2008 I'm in. - Vlam - 04-07-2008 I would love to do something like that. The cost would be an issue for me, but if we can start talking figures then I would start saving right away ! I want to go do some US fooshing !!!!!! - drew - 04-07-2008 Ruffneck Wrote:Drew, it was just a thought! Perhaps there are more anglers that wants to do a trip to the US lakes to catch lunkers... Ruffneck, I'm not gunning for anybody here, don't get me wrong, but it will cost ESA to do this..... time is money, and that will require sponsors, or all you willing participants a bit of money. Ask Trevor Spence about his trip. He went to Mexico and had a great time a while back so he has done it before. He is now also your ESA chap up there. Me personally. If I ever take an exotic trip, it's middle finger to anything except two 7'6" medium heavy rods, with two 8'heavy rods and a whole heap of lures. The most important thing in my tackle box being a ticket to Lake Tanganyika. You wanna hit BIG fish on bass tackle, that's where you wanna be. Ok, it may not be bass, but we bass fish because it's artlure and not pap gooi, so I'd opt for a bit of Nile Perch fishing way before a trip to the US. - Ninja - 04-07-2008 I would also love to go on a trip like that BUT and it is a big BUT, the cost will more than likely through me out. :blue-sad: If there's going to big sponsors and there should be then I'm with Drew here. rather use it localy first! - Mark5 - 04-08-2008 i would love to do that and i am game :blue-lol: |
