Where are the LUNKERS? - Bronnie - 09-26-2006 Guys...help me out on this one please. According to last year this time, the big dudes were eager to bite anything that you cast with but recently i find that the bass behaviour is very different as if they will only bite on certain lures and plastics!! Have they been fished too often?(not just the lunkers but the smallies too) cheers 8) - bassmaster - 09-26-2006 Hey Bronnie It all depends on where you are fishing and what baits you have been trying. There is never a guarantee that the same lure will work at the same time next year. The trick is to find something that entices the fish into a strike. If you are fishing the same spot as last year and it is slow it could be that it has been over fished or even some fish have been removed. Just keep trying, never give up! Lunkers - Guest - 09-26-2006 Hi there is a lot of factors to take in to considertation ,the weather will never be the same,as last year with global warming and such, the water maybe clearer than the time before or the other way, there might not have as many bait fish bred during the last season there for the bait you where using then resembled them at that time, the water level may be down by a half a foot which will make them change thier depth, or the level drop quick or its up and that will change their minds as well so dont worry they will show it might mean a little more work and thought to catch em may you catch a dawg soon - kuipie - 09-26-2006 I agree with the above comments completely..getting conditions the same as last year will not happen - too many variables in the equation - and the smallest change to us can make the biggest change to the bass's behaviour....like BM says : don't give up trying  - Lukas - 09-26-2006 For example no or lttle rains were recorded from Sept 2005 to Jan 2006, thus dams were on there last bit of moist. February 2006 came until end of april and most of the country gets lots of rain and dams fill up. Witbank from 34% to 100 % in no time, Harties 64% to 100%, Bronkhorst spruit from 11% to 103 %. So yes there are more to just wishfull thinking and hoping to get the same amount of fish everytime at the water. Homework, homework and more homework..... - Lukas - 09-26-2006 Now do not quote me on the dam levels it was just examples... - Johanvc - 09-27-2006 That is what I love about this site. You learn some thing new every day. But I just have a question for you guys that know. I still don?t understand what color lure to use in what clarity water? - robfisher - 09-27-2006 I was watching a Bass DVD last night and the rule is if the water is clear then use a light see-through lure and if the water is darker then use a darker lure? they weren?t too fussed about the actual colour. Personally I prefer the green?s than other because I feel it?s more natural but you have to see which is working for that spot that day. Last Saturday I found that browns and reds worked better than my normal greens. - Bronnie - 09-27-2006 thanx for the info guys....helps a great deal....everyday you learn something!!! - Fab - 09-27-2006 I also agree with the comments above, but have 5c to add..... I don't know what the weather has been like down in the cape, but up our end.... we had a relatively mild winter, it got warmer a little earlier than usual and then we had a cold snap that came through later than normal.... The water temps were a bit lower than usual and that will dramatically affect the bass's behaviour!!! NEVER GIVE UP!!!!!!   |
