Hi All

Will I be able to tow a boat like the Raker x16 or a Rebel 440 with a Ford Bantam 1.6XLT?
Maybe Navrik can assist?

HI MPB. I would think a Raker would to be too heavy. When I did my buoyancy certificate a few years ago the boat empty without any tackle weighed in a 950kg (with and older 90HP Evinrude V-4).

I am not sure how much less that Rebel 440 weight but it is similar in layout to the Raker albeit it 40cm shorter (1.21ft). I would depend on the weight of the motor.

I tow with a 2.5l (normally aspirated) Subaru Forester which handles that boat but there any many times I feel like I need a bit more power especially during overtaking and up steep hills

Your un-braked towing capacity according to Google is only 700kg which makes it illegal to tow the Raker which as 750kg stamped on the trailer.'

Hope this helps.

We had an angler here in the Western Cape (Erno Muller) who used to tow his Rebel 400 with a small Bantam.

So that is another option.

I had a Splash Mk1 before my Raker and that was a lot easier to tow.

The only issue with that is you will want to upgrade to at least a Raker at some point in the future.
