Good man! And you will not have to service a Shimano every month. :blue-biggrin:

Yep, once a year for health reasons is good enough. Surely you are kidding that it needed a service once a month?

You have only had it six months, serviced it every month and you want to sell it!!!!!
If I was you, I would keep it and mount it seeing as it's lasted so long. You got one of a kind there. Also, you will probably only have to give it away as I can't see any self respecting fisherman that owns a Shimano wanting to swap it for a, for a. for a Qua......, geez can't even bring myself to say it's name...

I have Shimano reels that is now 8 years old. Fished them stukkend in fresh and salt water. At most they get a rinse under the tap after I fished them at Kosi Bay. They have caught many a 4 to 6 kg Bass and Tiger and have never been opened, seen a drop of lube or been serviced. If you want to stuff up a reel then service it ...... Shimano that is.

I couldn't understand what all the fuss was about with reel brands. Shimano vs Quantum vs Abu vs Sensation etc. I have always just thought it was personal preference. I also just look at the ratio and see what would suit the application. I have Abu and Sensation bait casters. I don't have wads of cash to support my "habit" so I really shop for bargains, on Gumtree or where ever. Yesterday I picked up a cheap Shimano off Gumtree. Its a really really entry level Crestfire. For the money I paid I thought even if I just rig it with braid for frogs or abuse it in heavy grass or even just use it to get my son going it's a bargain. I really cannot believe the quality of build on the thing! The trigger is firm and precise. There is absolutely no play on any part of the reel whatsoever. It just feels firm and capable compared to the other reels (not that there's anything wrong with my other reels). If this is what a "cheap" Shimano feels like I can't imagine what the proper reels feel like.

The Crestfire is an entry level reel nowadays but it was top notch many moons ago and I still have and use an original model for farm dam fishing. It has more bushes than bearings but works fine.

All reels, like so many things in life, are relative and how you look after and maintain them is the key. The problem comes in when you follow advise on what is considered the best and you chip and change the whole time...........
Find what works for you and stick with that.
