Howzit Amatbass, all the guys gave you great feedback and there is not too much to add. Thanks for all the info guys now I have also learned some new things about the vaal !!

I have fished it on sunday ( My report is in the report back section in the forums "Vaal river 7 Oct") , we found that crancks really worked well in the shallow and next to the willows overhanging branches. We used Rapala jointed Shad raps and Norman Middle N, lures and the Color that worked was baby bass.

THANX TO ALL U OUT THERE FOR THE INFO.....one more q...if u fish with plastics...they dont float...does bass feed of bottom aswell??? and if yes, how far should weight be from bait?? and pushing toothpick in...is that the correct thing to do or should weight move freely on line..???

Are u fishing with a Mojo rig or a texas rig?

Mojo Rig- Can be fished with a pegged mojo sinker about 300-500 mm from the hook, depending on the clarity and depth of water that you fishing in.

Texas Rig- Can be fished with a floating sinker (not pegged runs freely on line) when you are fishing deep or shalow water with very little or no brush or spaced brush.

When fishing thick Structure i.e pitching into the structure you will then peg the texas sinker as close as possible to the hook, so as the sinker can take the lure and fall deep into structure/brush...

(plastics do not float unless stipulated on the packet)

I would suggest that you reference some of the older post where it’s the guys explained the different rigs like Texas, Mojo and Carolina. I think that if you understand this you would have a better understanding on where you weight must be and also what rig would work under the circumstances you will be fishing

The only direction a bass cannot see is down, so if the lure is directly beneath them they will not see it, but from an angle they will see it at the bottom.You do get some floating rubber lures, great if your fishing grass beds.
