Venom vs Bullet 160 Bass Boat

I'm shopping around for a boat (hull, trailer and plumbing only) and have looked at the Rebel 532, it's a bit pricy for me (74K for the hull & trailer). O the website bassboats.co.za I've seen the Venom and one that I haven't heard of, a Bullet 160, which is based on the Ranger hull design according to the website. These 2 are closer to my price range at R45K. I'd be really keen to hear of any positive or negative comments on these models.

I think Pomerob has a Venom - he should be able to tell you all the pros and cons.... if I am not mistaken the Venom is farely narrow...

My one friend had a Venom, and he was very unhappy with it! It used to always leak water and the finishing off wasn’t that good. It’s a very light hull and it used to chine walk with a 150hp on. The Bullet is a new hull so I'm not sure about its performance.

Are you looking to buy a new boat? I got a T-Bird that we trying to sell.

Thanks VX70 for the info on the Venom. I'm not necessarily looking to buy new but I'm only looking to buy a hull and trailer, I have a new Mariner 115HP, also have a trolling motor, fish finder etc which I'd use. I've heard fairly good things about the T- Bird though, pity you aren't selling the hull seperatley.

Thanks PDV, the Dragonfly sounds like a fairly nice boat, I'm a bit of a heavyweight though at 100KG odd, so is my usual fishing buddy (not MS Bassassasin of course :blue-badgrin: ) so it could be a bit unstable with our combined weight.

The Venom is the bigger of the 2 boats but I have also heard of many owners having problems with them. I drove one and was not impressed with the boat at all. It is very unstable for such a big boat. It is so light because the fibreglass is so thin.

The Bullet 160 is an upgraded copy of the Raiker 16 (From Zim) which was originally copied off a Ranger boat, but the hull design is old, although they have made a few modifications on the top deck to improve it.

One of the members from this site "FlukeMaster" had something to do with the boat, send him a PM and he should be able to give you more info.

My suggestion would be to go for a Bass Seeker 480, but it's gonna cost you about R65k

One of my neighbours has a Bass Seeker 550, he's happy with it, I guess that 480 is a bit smaller. At R65K it's getting close to the price that I have for the Rebel 532 (R74K), getting the Bass Seeker down to Cape Town would add to that cost which brings them even closer, I'm thinking that the Rebel may not be such a bad deal after all.

When I bought a boat up country 2 years ago it cost me R3500 to get it down here to Paarl.

I also believe when possible, it's better to buy a boat from a supplier near you - so when there is a problem, it's much easier to sort out.
