Prop Advice on VX70

Hi Guys

Duppa and I recently bought a VX70 hull and fitted our Suzuki DF115 on it. The boat has an outmount/jackplate. Now we need to get a proper propeller.

We tried with the prop we had - a 19 pitch 3 blade aluminium and the boat planes very quickly and then we run out of revs at 62km/h. I was hoping for a bit more speed...

I was hoping to get answers to the question we have:
Is there anyone out there who has a similiar setup?
Where can one get different props to try out?
What suggestions do you guys have? (except for a new motor as the budget is way past depleted now...) :blue-sad:

Any help or advice will be seriously appreciated.

Shaka - when you say you were running out of revs, what revs did you achieve?
That motor is rated @ 5000 - 6000 rpm and a gear ratio of 2.59:1.

What I am saying is that the prop feels too small - the motor quickly get to max revs - 6000...

And we tested it with a full fueltank (100l) and both livewells full...

Ok, so at WOT you can exceed the recomended max revs?

Easy! Its like driving your car in 2nd at high revs. Lots of grunt - no speed...

Shaka,I had a VX 70 with a 6" outmount,but had a 200 HP Mariner..Your current 19 pitch is far too low to get proper performance ...you should be looking at a 23 4 blade...speak to Bruce at Offshore Marine and he will sort you out.I found a 25 pitch 3 blade Trophy prop was good,but at top speed the chine walking drove me insane,so I sacrificed a few mph for a four blade 25 Powertech (from Bruce) which had the boat running superbly with great bow lift and speed ...I say a 23 because you are inland and I ,fortunately,lavish in the Fair City.I would probably still have this boat today,but it gave me the impression that it was going to flip backwards at speed,and became airborne quite easily when you ran into a breeze...so I sold it before it made me compost l :blue-shock: A really nice boat,but a bit hectic at the coast with a 200 HP.

Smurf, will a 23 pitch not be too big on a 115 four stroke?

We run a 24 pitch 3 blade tempest prop on the 200 merc on our vx. We get 5500 rpm and 120 kph on the gps with everything full.

On that 115 of yours, I'd suggest going for a 21 pitch prop, nothing more.

The VX is a heavy boat, so a 23 or 24 pitch will take you forever to get onto the plane.

Talk to Performance marine in Benoni, they'll be able to help you, test and adjust the jack plate as needed. Or speak to Steve at World of Fishing (in Weltervreden Park) and ask him for the guys number down stairs from him (Katay racing I think), they are also very good for advise, hep etc.

We carry an extra set of batteries in the front of the VX, it certainly helps when running at top end with the 200 merc on the back.. But it's a lekker boat to fish off. You'll enjoy it a hell of a lot.
