that is what the divisions are trying to achieve August, look how well organised they have been the last couple of years with one division trying to better the others attempt to make it great, Vaal river was brilliantly done and the sponsors were there to support too. now its to just get the public involved, but once again you only get a set amount of anglers participating

Yes, vaal was brilliant. And you all of a sudden know how much interest is shown when you come of the water and have a million texts off people that is following the live scoreboard.

I think we lack in advertising. We need to advertise the final day and make people aware that it is going down and there is cool stuff to do.

This year there was a couple of guys doing the boat exhibit there, but during the week the crowd would be small.

If you have one boat off every make there on exhibit and one stall of each tackle importer on show, you already have a pretty big show going. With lots of reasons for every make of angler to visit. They don't need to be there the whole week. Use the live scoreboard the first tow days to get the hype going and then a live weigh in the last day. And you can still have a proper prize giving for Wrangler etc later that evening.

Its not impossible. One has to take into account that most visitors will come from nearby. So that is a drawback, but wont be impossible

it would be great if we could ride on the back of a festival of some sorts. eg clanwilliam has a few festivals but accommodation becomes the issue. that's the problem with small towns. Wriggleswade??? what do you do.

Personaly I think advertising a comp where the anglers is limited to the top 50 anglers in SA with big prizemoney with a dam close to like a stadium where there is something to do for the people like a outdoor lifestyle show with big prize draw at the en of the final weigh-in then people will come and support this will also expose folks to the sport that would only have gone there to look at a new tent...

All I'm saying is get a sponsor like a bank or big co. think outside the boks and plan ahead and promote

I think SABAA already made a move in the right direction by for instance having the final day of nationals on a Saturday. Don't know if they did it for that reason but might help.

August that is EXACTLY why we did it... we really are hoping to attract a decent crowd on the final day and I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the suggestions the guys come up with.

The idea came from World Champs in Spain... having the crowd there during weigh in with the excitement and crowd interaction was simply marvellous!

The fact is that there are thousands of competitive bass fishermen in SA. The sport is fragmented with constant rifts with SABAA and others. As soon as you have "money" comps you will draw anglers but many of which are of the belief that they support the best segment of the sport with the least politics!

Now, just imagine if you could marry all these segments for just one event of the season, as has been alluded to?

I agree with what most of you are saying. This is exactly what we at Bass digest are hoping to achieve by giving our countries top anglers as much exposure as possible as this has been seriously lacking in the past.

As we progress with the mag we hope to get more and more involved in covering as many of the tournaments SA currently has to offer. It is a journey to get to where we want to be but will definitely get there.

nice bassoholic, just playing devils advocate please don't shoot me for this, but how do we determine who the countries top anglers are as there are many anglers that fish different sectors and I do know of very good anglers that don't affiliate to SABAA. so to try and give the top anglers of the country exposure how do you propose to do this? just interested not been critical

I would say get all the comps in/outside SABAA together:

WCBAA Elite Series
Cast for Cash
E-Bass
Y-Bass
BFSA MT
Etc.


Work out a scheme that say top 10 teams in a season get to compete in a country wide final that rotates and each comp organiser get their turn to organise. Keeping it a team event helps with costs unlike Nationals where all the cost are on an individual. Get live stream of price giving, real time war room coverage of the event through the day, basstrakk type system so the people monitoring the event gets updates to a leader board.

TV coverage of the whole thing. Website with videos of interviews with all the contenders.Social media plugins. Individual/team facebook pages. Individual/team websites with their sponsors shown. Trade show linked to the same weekend for boats, electronics and tackle suppliers .

And lots of other ideas....

Very nice and touchy subject brenden. But is maybe what we need. Although there are fenominal anglers not fishing SABAA comps, we do need a governing body to determine the best. Thus, to keep it simple, the sabaa rankings is maybe the best way. Unfurtunately if you play rugby for a club(although good enough to play for the bulls), but you opt not to because you dont want all the hassle of top level rugby its fine, but you must ask then why is the cameras on the weekend on the bulls game but not on the club game (although you are a beter player). So, id say they should continue like they do and use a ranking system that exist, so as to have a ligitimate non biased answer when asked the question you asked now. Obviously no one would frown apon it if some that is good is given a interview. But pushing a sabaa ranking might even promote it. I dont know, what do you think

Here's the thing.
SABAA is the official voice of organised bass angling in SA. It is SABAA and it's members who are registered with SASCOC and the like and abide by sporting codes and requirements, much of which is admin work.
The other entities do none of this albeit we practice the same sport.
