April fools joke now a reality

So if you remember our April fool's prank that lead a few people up the wrong path, you will recall that we had a dig at getting your boats pre-washed for control of weeds/grass to prevent inter dam contamination.

But I'll re-write the spoof bit about boat washing so you dont have to jump backwards an forwards:
The Department advised that it would make available all documentation in this regard in due course. It also advised that as of 1st August 2015, all water craft including [kayaks, sailing vessels, bait boats, canoes for recreation or competition, wind surf crafts, wake boards, skis, floatation tubes for recreation, floatation tubes for fishing, jet ski crafts] for inland waters must be disinfected before launching at public dams with a product called Isochloroflouride which will be made available in spray booths at public venues for a negligible fee. These spray booths will be managed and run by local unemployed persons to coincide with the Departments employment equity programmes

So myself and Julian headed off to Theewaterskloof on sunday to see what the day would bring, only to be stopped at the gate and told that we need to get the boat disinfected to prevent contamination.... WTF? My april fools joke is now becoming a reality....

We didnt have to pay anything for it, and had to get the boat washed after fishing too. There was some paperwork we had to sign, both for TSC and for DWAF. From what I understand, you will have to get your tub washed every time you go to TWK, and not just the first time you pitch up.

How was the fishing? It was crap.

Not sure that they should be blasting a high pressure hose into any livewell...will most likely destroy the pumps if they are close.And I notice that the dam is in the background...so all the run-off from your newly washed boat and trailer goes straight into the dam... :blue-rolleyes:

len, i didn't ask them to wash the car but I'm sure they would have given it a quick blast if we asked.

I was there at 06h30 and the 2 guys doing the washing were ready and waiting.

I was there yesterday (Monday). I knew about the washing but nothing was said at the gate and no one approached me at any point.

I have no problem with the idea but I will insist on spraying out my livewells myself.

Also, the fishing sucked!! But TheBee did managed to pull out three smallies in 5 minutes (and a few others). And also managed to scrape my front transducer off on a rock. Fun was had by all!

Did I mention that the fishing sucked.

Guys I know that it could be a irritation but I think you ,me ,we ,us are not thinking about this the right way.
We always say someone must do something to fix the dams ,get rid of the cabbage and and...
Now they are doing something about the spread of unwanted objects and wait for it......

WE COMPLAIN instead of commending these guys for a step in the right direction.

I fished a dam in let's just say the joburg area and bumped into a chap in charge of water affairs he was very interested in managing the dams in the greater JB from a angling point of view and they were spending a lot of money on this particular dam to get the infrastructure sorted and getting unwanted plants out of this dam.everyting starts with small steps. This particular gentleman even got in help from one of the fisheries in the area and he doesn't even fish himself he just get the idea of making some dosh and using it to better the other dams in that area.

I consider that a step in the right direction.

I think you're getting this all wrong.

No one has said they'll resist the idea. To me the consensus seems to be that it's new, potentially difficult to enforce consistently, possibly problematic at larger gatherings and that care might need to be taken with the actual washing.

I doubt anybody thinks it's a bad or severely misguided idea.

I'm waiting to see a line of kickboaters patiently waiting for water to be shot up their backsides. It's only fair that they have to get a wash as well. :eusa_whistle:
