Day 1

We arrived in time for the 2pm check-in but the wind was pumping and there was no way I could launch my little boat in that so we wandered around a bit before taking a drive to the dam.



I brought my small spinning rod along and had a few casts from the side and bang on.



The rain was on and off but the wind was just too hectic.
They have built a new fence; gate and guard hut, which is not a good sign for me as the security issues, is what has kept this such a good fishery. A bit selfish I know.

Day 2

Such a weird day weather wise. I have never taken my jacket off and on so much. It went from freezing to boiling hot all day. For the first hour and a half I did not even get so much as a nibble and I was thinking the weather will have the last say but then the switch was turned on in a big way.







I dropped the wife off to stretch her legs when a Giraffe come out the bush behind her.




I did a little fishing by myself hence the selfie.



I have never caught so many fish in one day a Goedertrouw. No massive lunkers with the biggest just under the 3kg mark. I did however loose what looked in excess of 5kg. Yes I know the one that gets away is always looks double it weight but this was a beast and could only launch itself out the water just past it’s gills.

I was gutted. I felt guilty for feeling this way as we were having a feed frenzy of note.

We had a small lunch time braai by the slipway and headed out for a late afternoon session. It did not stop and I lost count on numbers.









Day 3

It could only be a quick morning session as we had to book out by 10am.

The first 45min we landed 11 fish all keepers between the two of us with my wife catching more than me. Yesterday was my day so I was happy with that. No big fish but we were catching and then the switch was thrown off. Not another bite for the next 1.5hrs so we called it a day.

I am really bummed that I missed out on my annual trip to Goedies this year but from what I can tell early September was not so good due to much lower water levels.

Ha ha :blue-biggrin: . A little tricky at this dam with no security. The weather is warming so a night session may just be on the cards but not at Goedies.

Has anyone noticed how much darker the fish are from all my previous reports. The water is the cleanest I have ever seen this dam.
