when you join a club what are the pros and cons for the basser

Ok as I said the proof is in the pudding. I fished my first club comp this weekend. Besides fishing it was not what I was expecting. Arrived early Sat morning approx 5:45am, no coffee no nothing just launch your boats and go. No friendly chit chat on the water. The only interaction of the day was at weigh in then everyone dissapered back to their own personal camp site.

The camp site was about 500m long if not longer and everyone kept to themselves. Everyone had their own braais in the evening, No big fire to share the days happenings, no clinging of glasses and sharing of beer. In general no comradery of any type. Out of all the people who attended 3 people actually took the time to make us feel welcome, for which I thank them.

Sunday launch took place during heavy mist, despite the mist everyone pulled of and proceeded at full tap oblivious to any saftey issues of not being able see more than 5 meters. We also pulled of but plodded along and before long decided to pull up into weed and wait for the mist to clear.

After the comp pepole started leaving without as much as a goodbye.

Roll on the next Gauteng get together, fishing, braais, beer and interaction. I think I will leave my competitive fishing to the nissan or bett in future.

Jeez, that sucks. Which club is this?
We always Camp and Braai and Drink together on our weekend comps.

Yeah it's a shame rob, to me that is what fishing is all about. If I want to be that serious then I can fish the nissan or bett circuits. Clubs should be for people who wanna share and interact with other anglers.

Strange, me and my buddy had also decided that we will rather fish the cast for cash than joining a club! I think there is way to much politics in fishing!

I caught 10 fish but none were taken in the spots advised. I did start there but I couldnt find any fish. Ended up spending alot of time in the 2 bays near the highway. Caught 9 there.

What a pity you had such a bad experience.....

Not the case with our club though..... we camp together , have coffee and rusks in the morning together, launch together and fone each other during the day to see who's getting what, where and on what.....
We have a cut-off time and we go to camp together. We book a couple of sites next to each other and we all stay together. We share food, snacks and fires and drink together.... The days activities are shared around a bonfire... A gr8 social vibe and commaraderie!!!!! There are more clubs up there.... maybe don't give up so easy on clubs.... suss them out nicely first!!!!

Hopefully Drew, King dinger, Richard and Appel can make it to our next meeting in a couple of weeks time!!!!!
