New in Gauteng

[Bassing Crazy]

Hi All,

My family and I have recently moved up to Gauteng and were wondering if we could get some info on dams like Rust de Winter and Roodekopjes.
Unfortunately my boat is still standing in the Eastern Cape so we will have to bash the banks at these dams.

I was hoping to get away this saturday to enjoy a day with the family doing what we have an absolute passion for even though we have only been bassing for a short while now.

Could I possibly pick your knowledge of the dam a little better with regards to where I could try and what the costs are and what lures to use.
The thing is that my son has been nagging me to find a venue to fish and I would really love for him to have the best oppertunity to catch a bass again.
I don't care about myself but he really loves his fishing and I would really appreciate your feedback.

Centurion mall has two dams with bass in and your aloowed to fish there

I haven't been to Rusties or Roodekpjes in the last decade, so sorry - I cannot help there.

I am also quite new to the bassing scene.

It is sometimes a bit difficult to get info on where to go as many bassers (with good reason) do not want to give up details of their honey holes as then it gets hammered by the hook-and-cook brigade...

I also see in one of the new magazines that they have an article about places to go and most of them are good for bank angling.

IF you go to Rusties - watch out for the crocs!!!

Also there are some rumours about a croc or two in Rietvlei - there are definately some hippo...

Im not sure with the croc situation at Rusties I would wade around there... :blue-badgrin:

I would suggest that if you want a safe family friendly place with some bass from the bank you check out Bass-o-Mania near Bronkies.

The owners name is Danie, its essential you call him first.

I would think its the best bet if you are still finding your feet and want security, cover and a braai area.

WE BLANKED at Rietvlei but enjoyed the outing thoroughly.

We want to go and try Rusties in the not too distant future and will give some feedback once we've been there and hopefully this time we won't BLANK again.

Howzit! Rietvlei has given me hours of fun after work.

We used to get there when it was quiet during the week and would almost always go all the way to the left near the bird island you can see in the distance.

Simply put, we would put on the waders and wade till about waste deep. Then fan cast out as there are plenty grass beds and that was that.

I used weightless flukes, spinnerbaits, weightless hatch match and some topwaters. These are the top baits that produced all the time there.

You have to be persistent, we always got fish in the late afternoon / early evening slot.

One can fish any where though and pick up fish, the trick is to go when it is quiet...weekends and public holidays are out.

we got in at abut 16h00 and fished until it was dark
