You've just put your finger smack bang on the poo! :blue-badgrin: The experts say there is no skill involved in catching a fish whilst trolling/strolling. You are expected to cast, retrieve, out maneuvre and land a fish using your skill.

Last thought: There will always be cheating (co-operation is the political correct term) when big prizes are at stake... I was told once that it is human nature, hmf!

If an angler is angered by someone entering thier fishing space it is the responsibilty of that angler to ask the offending party to abstain, if they dont then it is thier responsibilty of the angler to lodge an objection at the end of the event. yes it is very hard to monitor and enforce which is even more compounded when people allow certain boats in very close proximity for a social chat and some sharing and careing, the rules clearly state if you let 1 person in you must allow all people in. So yes from the organisers point of view it is an almost immposiable thing to control, hence the rsponsibilty is on the onus of the offended party to report it.

I will agree to disagree on the amount of disturbance speeding boats make, a speeding boat can be heard several km's away whilst a motor running at 1200 rpm causes very lil disturbance even at close quaters, even less when it is an aux motor.

I would imagine most trollers would be more considerate, as with 50m of line behind me I definately wouldnt come zig zagging between stationary boats, in fact I would'nt come trolling if there were boats in my intended run, just as anyone shouldnt come cast a line in the spot you are fishing in the staionary position.

Any way it is immaterial, i enter the comps with full knowledge of all the rules and abide by them. It however was a very good question. Why is this rule enforced and the only people who could answer it would be the people that actually issue the rules and "enforce them"!

Whilst we have blood in our veins and air in our lungs we will always agree to disagree on the strolling aspect ;-) I enjoy it and regardless of other opinions will practice it when I am allowed to which at the moment is only socially, unless I am prepared to invest nearly R70K fitting equipment that will legally allow me to pull a lure behind me at 6kmph of the beaten track.

You need a boat number, or name to lodge a complaint. There are many people fishing in a field of 100 boats and I don't know the names of all the anglers. While talking about casting distance and space given by / to competitors, I have noted something that is 100% consistant. Those anglers, that you never see on the podium, or those on tiny little rubber ducks etc, will almost always respect your fishing space 100%.
The top guys will push that envelope as far as they can. It happend twice on Saturday while situated on the banks leading into Taxi Bay, and when the chaps got close and I flung my crank past the nose of their boat I was met with a shocked stare. I found this interesting as we were on the same spot for 30 mins and the other competitors were the guys moving towards us. The first boat that had my crank thrown in their direction powered up and left. The second boat needed two casts to get the message.

And strolling........ Eish, you do NOT want me to go here. Until the issue of brush piling, and baiting of these spots is attended to, which we all know will never be seen as taboo, I don't see why strolling on an aux or electrics should be frowned upon. All I know, is that Alberts and Inanda are going to get some serious attention from me in terms of contouring. When the contours are sorted and appropriate spots found, many ash bricks will find a new home.

I don’t know about that Drew’arama... I think that’s pushing the envelope and getting an unfair advantage as well. Studying the fish finders and marking spots is a 100% fine (and a lot of hard work) but planting brush piles and baiting a spot certainly is an unfair advantage and shouldn’t be allowed unless recorded at a central point for all to share.

But at the end of the day my fishing is not top 10 stuff (I would love it to be but I don’t commit enough time to the sport to really compete and I would have to be single to do it) and as long as my club mates and buddies are all on equal footing I’m happy to compete against them for simple kudos.

Rob, just take a hand help GPS to Alberts in the middle of winter when the water has it's seasonal low period. You will see more tyres, bricks and steel than dry Earth !! Inanda is a different animal all together.

As for the rule of strolling with a main motor could it not come down to a safety aspect? What I could think of is what if you fell over board while your motor is running? Surely you don't have a long lead attached to your wrist and to the kill switch all the time? The boat would then be heading unmanned towards wherever it was pointing at 6khm? accidents can happen quickly... :blue-confused:

Nope cant be a factor, if the main motor is running your supposed to be wearing your kill switch, same as a life jacket.

Because it's unsportsmanlike, it allows an angler to cover excessive amounts of water and extreme depths when no angler casting a bait could achieve the same thing.
Change the rules to suite a few...? Bullshit, either they conform or leave, simple.

Leave it for the practice days on the water with the family, don't bring it to competitions.

Again that’s debatable… concentrating on feeling the structure as you gently drag your bait waiting for a light nibble and then Ninja like reaction for the strike versus sticking your rods into rod holders and driving all over the dam waiting for the fish to jump onto the hook and then getting up and cranking the fish in. But there is no doubt that there is a certain amount of science and routes to strolling which John has worked very hard on… but pretty much most other strollers would be driving around blind. Again you and I will never agree on this so once again we will agree to disagree.
