ESA Bass

I’m not sure if anyone feels the same but the last few ESA Bass shows have been crap.

I appreciate that allot goes into making a show and it must be expensive but there is no comparison compared to other ESA shows. ESA Bass seems to be just plain boring. Admittedly I don’t get to see each episode due to not having DSTV and have to rely on Mnet throwing us a bone every now and then. The last 3 or 4 shows have not been too inspiring and you actually don’t feel like fishing after watching. People who don’t fish for bass must think its more boring than catching carp. They always seem to be fishing testing conditions with hardly any fish being caught.

The one I saw this morning was on the Namibian invitational. The show seemed to be slapped together. 15 minutes are spent paying the sponsors, so you see allot of logos, motors, flags, shirts. a good 5-10 minutes are spent on scenery, people skiing and similar. They then fail to show you who actually won the invitational, what the biggest fish/biggest bag was? huh? And then promptly give tips on using spinner baits, which was great but why not spend time giving tips on what the guys where catching on which was apparently flukes.

On their shows where they are fishing testing conditions (...umm thats every show) why not spend more time on latest tackle etc, showing you how to rig and fish for those conditions etc, tactics.....anything but having to watch them catch nothing.

I know it’s unfair to compare them to a Hennie papenfuss video because he only makes shows when he catches, and he only fishes hot spots, but his are very well put together and you feel amped to go wet a line after watching. After watching ESA bass it feels like I’ve kissed my sister :blue-confused:.

I was up at 5 to watch the show, and felt like puking on my springbok jersey.What a load of crap. I tried to see our buddy Seadog and got a glimpse.

The other esa shows [ saltwater ] are more interesting but then they have a wide variety of fish to catch and way more places to fish so it keeps them fresh and interseting . esa bass , only has bass so it must be hard to catch enough big fish to keep it interesting .

I must admit I am not all that impressed either. I actually only watch the show if I happen to see the repeat in the week... I know they are trying but it seems they are focusing on the totally wrong aspects of fishing for the fans.

Why have I not been on the show as a special guest?! I mean hello???? hahahahaha :blue-lol:

I must also say that I did think that having Xavier on the site would have helped them get some feedback on what we the fans would like to see... ja right.. :blue-confused:

true, perhaps they should make it bi-weekly or once a month and do it propperly and just put more effort in. They dont have to catch fish all the time but there is tons of content they can use to make it interesting.

Perhaps you should take them to Goedies warren.

I used to watch she show regularly but as time went on it was not a major issue in my life if I missed an episode or two. I think you hit the nail on the head with your comment above. If it is not "gripping" enough for us bassers then you not going to get non bassing people interested in the sport in order to grow it.

Don't get me wrong I'll still watch it but I'll no longer fight with my wife for the remote if she want's it on a Thuesday at 07:00 :blue-doubt:

My 2 cents.... there are so many guys wanting to buy a bass boat.... why not discuss a different bass boat from time to time..... local and imported :blue-rolleyes:

Vaalboy, it's on wednesdays or thursdays. It just started again... I think it's wednesdays and at 10pm they have 2 hours of it!!! Wooohooo!! The cap cam shots are so cool!! Just check the dstv guide... I'm sure you will pick it up somewhere...

What's ESA ????? No just joking I think the ESA Salt water in better because you get so many diffrent things OSSA LBSA ans so on. ESA Bass on the other hand Darren is only about bass what they should do is do some bank angling for bass tube angling or just do an ESA Fresh Water that covers all fresh water fishing. Just a thought use in or dont use it, but try it you'll prob love it.

Does anyone else here know that FLW magazine does international subscriptions, and it's not to expensive, but when it comes to value is outstanding :blue-idea:

I couldn't agree more with the statements about the show being boring. Sorry Xavier. I know there must be a lot of time and money put into them but the consensus is that they are missing the mark with the target audience. My suggestion is to take an opinion poll on what the audience wants to see and try to accommodate. There were a few good suggestions above such as boat tests/comparisons but one can also extend that to any new bassing products. Here a few cents worth of my own opinion: One could also focus on specific techniques - but go deep into it and dedicate a show to, say, jig fishing (underwater footage of the lure action, terrain to fish it in etc).
Why not a show on bank angling for bass or float tubing once in a while.
Boat setup - fishfinders, transducers, livewell systems, rod racks, tackle storage etc.
There must be hundreds of possibilities other than watching other okes fishing all day with mediocre results.
My last offering - I know sponsors are important and must get their airtime but try to be a little more subtle in the hard sell and at least tell the guys what other brands are available in a particular product.
Please take this as constructive criticism as it is intended. I think we would all like to see ESA bass continue but also grow and refine.
