I have not experienced a problem with topwater bait colours as it is a reaction bite and it must be clearly visible against the sky to entice the bass.
All other methods or rigs I try to match the bottom or the baitfish if I can see them.
Also very important to notice is the fact that the baitfish colour may differ in different sections of the dam. This is where your logbook helps.
Maybe there is a lot more barbel or tadpoles in our dams and that is why black and white are such versatile colours.
When we used to feed our bass I watched them take tadpoles before they would look at tilapia, goldfish has zero chance to swim 2 meters with bass close by.

I did get some info from CBC on this subject, and thanks to all for the imput. I now got a good idea next tip and well use all info give to better the angling expaerance for myself so hopefully I can post some pic's of fish !!!!!!!!!!!!!

cbc i do keep a log book but i am finding as i get older some of the pages are becoming a blur especially on the day of the comps in all the excitement i cant even log in...my brain just goes blank :blue-lol:
