A day just like any other day....

A few years ago a friend of mine invited me to join him for a weekend of bassing and the rest as they say is history. On one of these trips after a good day on the water sitting around the fire with a fortified beverage in hand we got to chatting about interesting and exciting bassing experiences and one story he shared with me stuck with me for some or other reason.


He mentioned that he was fishing a particular dam and the fish were biting particularly aggressively on this day and on a number of occassions he would hook a fish and fight it to the boat to find two or three fish trying to take the bait out of the bass' mouth. My imagination worked over time as I built this scene in my mindand found myself wondering if I would ever get to experience this and so it was that the seed of Bassing Addiction was planted and eventually took root in my life.


A couple of weeks ago I found myself fishing at Inanda and we found an area that was producing good fish. We made a colour change the week before and experimented the following week with a colour that I did not expect to work as well.

On the day in question we started picking the area apart and picked up a few good keepers. The wind then picked up a few knots and the game was on. I hooked into a decent fish and as I winched the fish closer I noticed a similar sized fish on either side of the hooked fish making charges at the bait that was dangling from its mouth. This happened numerous times on this day and resulted in the baits going missing virtually every time a fish was hooked.


A wonderful day on the water and in the midst of all the action I had forgotten the story that my friend had once regailed me with around the campfire but sitting at home that night feet up and enjoying the buzz of the days fishing I recalled that night around the flickering campfire at Nagle Lodge and smiled a most satisfied grin and placed a bold tick on my Bassing Bucket List....

ps.We all have so much to be thank full for, we can go fish and have fun, some people have to hide from gunfire and war. Every time we go fish think about how lucky we are to experience nature and share creation with friends.

Thanks for sharing Ryanie. Think it is time for s "skelm" second hook like I learnt to use during a Henties Bay fishing trip a few years ago.

Imagine hooking into those second fish and experiencing a double hookup.

Just over 20 years ago we were fishing at Langebaan lagoon while stationed at Air Force Base Langebaanweg when we got into a school of white stumpnose. We were eventually catching 3 stumpies at a time. Needless to say I built up an interesting collection of fresh fish and was very popular with my buddies at every braai the next few weeks!
