I was just thinking about something. What if you where fishing and you caught a small bass and on the way in a monster bass comes and eats it, and lets say just for argument sake it was the new SA record! Would it be a viable catch or would it be classed as a live bait catch?

I have heard of this happenening once but how it would affect a SA record claim is difficult to say....

Maybe if the first bass you originally hooked was kept and examined to show there were no "livebait" holes in the back of the fish... Might have a better chance of counting...... 8O :? :roll:

My guess is that it would be considered live bait because the record was not caught on artificial lure? plus the chances of a hook up would be really slim because the hook would be in the first fishes mouth and a hook up would be rather difficult.

I beg to differ. The lure should still be on the line then not? It is not your fault bass is such bullies at times.

I have often hooked up on a fish and when I get it close to the boat see another 2 or 3 fish fighting and bullying the fish for the lure. Who says it was going for the smaller bass and not the lure :-?

I think it would count as long as the lure is still on the line.

I agree with you Robdog.The chances of hooking the second fish are not
that slim especially if youre using a crank,there should be a few spare hooks still
in the open.

I would say as long as your lure hooked the fish in the mouth and the fish is still on the line while dishing into the net...

Scenario 1: Now let me see, I'm trolling, naturally, and a bonnie comes and takes my sailie feather, then a +100kg marlin takes the bonnie. What do I tell my mates? "I was trolling for sailies and hooked this amazing 3.5kg bonnie, but then some damn marlin came and stole my fish!" Or, "guys, I caught a +100kg Marlin today!"

Scenario 2: I'm trolling for bass, naturally. Am I looking for teeny weeny itsy bitsy bass with wormies? No, I'm targeting big fat piggy bass. Now if a little one comes along and grabs the crank, and a big ol' dump truck grabs the lil' bass and the crank, happy days!!!!

Da Law: If you intentionally targeted the fish in this manner, your 'record' catch will be disqualified.
