I have also heard of somebody doing this at Inanda.
As far as I know spearing in freshwater is illegal, doesnt matter if its for indigenous or alien fish.
There are a number of spearing clubs, if the video and photos are sent around to the clubs they would have to have a word with the guy because they wouldnt want their club name dirtied by one mans actions.

We will never win with this hook and cook thing! Now if all those fish were maargat and the dam was severely over populated, then it wouldn't be half bad but look at the quality of those fish. If this poepol was doing it for the sport then why doesn't he also target poor edibles such as carp........?

Due to NEMBA, authorities may close their eyes to the bass but the Blue Kurper may be worthwhile reporting?

I guess we have to accept the fact that in pretty much all dams and rivers with bass there will always be hook and cook fisherman. The best we can hope for is that people at least don't use gillnets.

If someone is in finacial dire straits and need to catch fish for food I can even accept it , but this w..ker will probably try and give these fish to his cat , and when the cat doesn't want to eat it , will throw it away before starting the fire and putting Theuns Jordaan on the system ...

I shared the video on the freedivers cape town's facebook page. I'm a spearfisherman myself.. and I know most of the guys in that group. Some interesting points were made.
unfortunately its a closed group, so you wont be able read the comments.

But I basically said that its makes me mad as a bassfisherman, and sad as a spearfisherman. Some guys are OK with that oke spearing bass.. but most of the spearfisherman are against it.

Im sending that guy a personal message now.

This is what I said:
"Louis.. spieshengel van varswater vis is baie onwettig. Jou video het nou al n paar draaie op die internet gemaak. Die hele bass hengel gemeentskap is bitter ongelukkig, en die spieshengel manne van freedivers CapeTown stem dat dit baie oneties en onnodig is. Dis mos glad nie n uitdaging nie.

Hierdie is maar net n waarskuwing dat jy die wet oortree het. Die video het nou al wyd gedraai.
Al is Bass n uitheemse vis, is dit wat jy doen steeds onwetting.

Louis Lourens Antonie Griessel Christopher Greenland here I am reading your insults and listening to every bad word there are to say about this. Never have I delete any of these pictures nor video's. I love my sport and never will I stop doing I love to do. In regards to all the mail I receive with the odd one that would like to know more and what the fish behavior are under water, hear is what I have to say. I dont hide from no one. I have been filming bass under water for a couple years watching them and trying understand why we dont catch 5 Kg and 6 Kg bass everyday. I also would like to say as my faith has nothing to do with spearfishing. I do have a permit that clearly tells me that I may spearfish in freshwater. I was also instructed to eliminate fish not of origin and yet I restrain form doing that. I also mentioned that I have spotted several bass with my knowledge that was close if not more than 6 KG that was full of eggs and I didnt shoot them. Not one has contacted me nor write a personal message as I have done almost this entire morning. Instead of trying to understand or find reason you choose make any enemy and by that you create someone that now will go out and shoot the whole boat load of bass, small, big, male or female....is that the results that you are looking for? Please guys to make an enemy is easy but to suck up the results for years to come is hard. I dont hunt fish everyday and I make point of once a year per dam filming mostly but will enjoy myself with dam that has problem. I also hunt dam witch farmers ask me to clear for them. I have seen much lager bass than Loskop in other dams and have footage of really big bass hunting prey as I like to see them do as I would rather catch the next SA Record. Some dam are in trouble and some are near complete failure. I am not mad to the comments. nor resentful. Yes I did call Jason Vanderwath and I said I would mail him the permit. I did not say I had to proof anything. Jason Vanderwath your words are not right, what I did say is I have footage of much lager bass and that particular day I have seen lager but was female that I choose not to shoot. Thank you all.

Anglers all over are moaning and bitching just like us but we cant do ZIP.

Yes it is his sport and we must respect that. Dumb sport in my opinion but that is my opinion. I knew I have seen his face some where. He was on the bassas da india DVD that Hennie made some years back. So he knows about fish stock preservation I just think he does not give a damn.

It is sad and it makes me sick to the core but there is nothing we can do.
