What a great plan. I will take robdog's advice on the when it is warmer. The dam is situated on a very high point on the mountains behind Utrecht on the way to Vryheid.
See on GoogleEarth. 27?39'15.88"S 30?33'52.51"E and there are plenty of bass for the kids.

Wait for September to October and remind me again.

It gets cold in KZN? just ask me at 05:00am in the morning at Albert Falls after shooting across the dam from the place we stay to the launch spot?

Oh there is no doubt we would kak off there? I?m not for one second saying KZN is colder that Gangsters Paradise? I could not live there? lived there for 2 years and WILL NEVER consider going back? ever? but it still gets cold in KZN especially for us hot house plants used to the tropics!

And just like a kid I like the reverse psychology you are using because I WILL give Texas a full go today? and yes there is little doubt that I?m like a kid? always have been and always will? I may be going a little grey but I?m young at heart.

I can?t understand why I have never used a Texas Rig because it would certainly seem to complement my style of foooooshing? today will be the litmus test for Lone Star State type foooooshing!

Ok, I'm not a Dad, but Ross and Angus, who live at Albert Falls have been under my wing in the fishing department since they could walk. If you really want your son or daughter (good on you Oli) to generate an interest in fishing and outdoors, then the most important thing is to keep the interest up. If the fishing is slow, then NEVER grumble. Stay positive and maybe run and gun a bit more than normal. If you don't have a boat, then walk away from the water for a while and have a drink and a bite to eat. Teach them a bit about tackle and what bait does what. The good fishing days are great for the youngsters, but it's the slow days that could break their interest in fishing forever. When you are running to a new spot, take it a bit slower and don't necessarily talk fishing on the way. Unless the little chap is a fishing nut. I have found that if you overload Angus with fishing info, he gets confused and frustrated and then a little disinterested. His younger brother on the other hand will fish for 9 hours a day no problem, but he's not the one I'm concerned about and I've found that if I put a rod in Angus's hands and show him how to fish the bait, and then talk about school sports etc, then he can fish a lot longer... it has certainly helped to fish, but not focus 100% of conversation on fishing. Imagine going to work for 8 hours and having one 8 hour meeting on exactly the same topic !! If you are a person with a mind that wanders, that will drive you insane.

they sure do fishton, i still remember my first rod and reel " Pick & Pay" special, that kit changed my life.
All i wanted to do is fish, i was lucky there was a small dam right across the road from our house with loads of bluegill and barbel in it.
The thing about fishing is , it teaches kids discipline!

They only need one thing, as much time as possible spent with you. Doesn't matter if it's sitting at home playing chess, a video game, swimming, throwing a ball or fishing.

Right Fishton, but outdoor activities are generally healthier than video games, so fishing with the kids gets my vote 8-)

i agree with robdog the outdoors is so much better for kids, but as a parent any time with your kids is cool 8-)
i don't have kids , but when i fished with my brother inlaw and his son , when we got back home everyone on the trip helps to clean and unpack the boat,
it is not all fun!
