Things to try for your next fishing trip

Questions which you must ask yourself before you got out on the water!!!!
1.What's the main form of structure you going to be fishing at the dam?
2.What's the predominate fry that inhabit the lake?
3.Which side does shine in the morning meaning, which side heats up first in the morning
4.Which direction does the wind blow from?
5.Whats the water clarity and water temp?
6.Whats the weather been like in a three day cycle?

All these question will help you on which lure and what color to use for the body of water you going to fish.So I've got some pointers here to help you in you chose of lure selection.

SEASON

The season will determine the lure and the fishing style you will need to use, and the metabolism of the bass.In winter the fish get tough as many will say but follow these golden rules and I'm sure you will boat some fish.Bass generally move to deeper water and don't feed that offen so down scale on the lure chose and go for your darker colours as the fish are deeper, mojo and Carolina rigs work very well in winter, simple reason the bait stays in the strike zone much longer.Slow down in winter because the fish can be very finicky. Then you get the spring and summer fishing 'SPAWN", well the fish here one must remember the fish move in and out of the sallows. So use more of your shallow running cranks and spinner baits as the fish are more aggressive in this time of the year...A small tip..the bass like the 6ft-12ft of water this time of the year so don't be scared to fish it!!!!

Confidence

Confidence is the most important thing one can have on their boat and no money can buy it, so fish a lure in which you have faith in and you will boat some fish...Like Justy said in an article "give the lure sometime", which I feel is a very important rule.Somethings one must remember when selecting your lure...as the fly fisherman have this point nailed "match the hatch" look at your surrounding and you it to your advantage on lure selection, ask yourself whats the water clarity? Whats the colour of the fry you have seen?Whats the colour of the bottom and what type of bottom is it..eg:rocky or muddy.

Colour selection

Colour selection is based on a few key points, remember "MATCH THE HATCH" Look around once again, whats the water colour, hows the bottom-rocky or muddy, whats the structure you fishing. All of this will determine your colour chose.

Before jumping in to try out these techniques I have to ask one thing though, is this newly acquired info that you will be using in future or have you been applying it for some time?

my advice to anyone who goes bass fishing is to try keep it simple...there are just tooo many choices out there....lures...colours...rods,,,reels...lines.

you will find the basics always work...colours like watermeloen seed...june bug...lavender shad...firetiger.

most important...try have fun.

Well I have been reading alot and about the couch thing is like I said I know what to do but I don't know when!!!!

thats what makes the difference between the person who wins the comp and the rest of the pack...as you can see by the results the people who spend the most time on the water understanding what the fish are doing and which lures and what colour they are feeding on win the comps...

this weekend bett is gona be a good example...everyone knows that the horny toad is the lure which is catching the big fish at the moment...so the majority of fisherman will be using a horny toad in their colour of choice...the difference between the person who wins and rest of the pack is gona be who practised and found where the bigger fish are...and hopefully 10 other people dont go to the same spots...and if the horny toad doesnt work or the sun comes out and the shallow bite is not the one which is working then the people who spent sunny days on the water looking for the fish in different locations using different techniques are gona be the ones who succeed.

another example was a final we fished...we had never fished the dam before and didnt have a clue where to start...we managed to cover a lot of water but not enough... the locals who knew the dam won the comp...we didnt even get to the waterfall where all the bigger fish were caught...but the locals and the people who had practised on the dam had some idea where to go.

you need to do your homework on a dam speak to the local fisherman and find out as much as you can about the dam...fish with as many different people as you can to get a good idea of what works and where the fish are caught...catching the fish is the easy part... knowing where the active fish are is what makes the difference...because an active feeding bass will pretty much eat anything you throw at it.
