Power fishing

pomerob, not to scare you or anyting like that but I go with my 9mm to Inanada. I keep it on my boat the whole time. I campted there in December 2004 and people next to our site were robbed and cleaned out one night. Will never camp there again. I only go there (day time) because it is close to me and the fishing is not to bad. On Sunday on my way home just outside Inanada I was stoned by younster but did not dare to stop!

I will only camp at Albert Fall's main camp site which is called Notuli Camp Site. Even Bon Accorde which is just outside the main dam (privately owned a while back) is off my list as people were robbed there as well some time back.

Who said fishing is not dangerous......not in good old South Africa!

albert falls but inanda is still my first choice in natal. the best part about inanda is that you will always catch fish. i have blanked in every other dam on occassions. i have been fishing there for about 2/3 years and the only other dam i really enjoyed, the little time i spent there was inyaka dam. if i was offered a dam to spend a week fishing inyaka would be my first choice. the problem is it took us 10 hrs to get there fished for 10 hrs and drove 10 hrs back to durban.

the other problem with inanda is that it is like a circus on the weekend with the clowns who have no idea about slip way ethics, jetskis that are bored because there is nothing to do on the dam exept go round and round and bother the fisherman. people have no idea about the no wake zone and the list just goes on and on and as for the canoeist well when you hear of a canoe which sank due to prop cutting it up you know he went between me and the bank AGAIN.

Sorry, power fishing............this is done by using a battery operated, prop driven, remote controlled crank bait. It has a small camera on the front it and you monitor its movements under the water by using your on board "pimp my boat" LCD DVD screen.

Once the 5.6kg bass takes the alrm will sound and you you activate the electro-magnetic retractor which is mounted on the side of the boat and it will retreive the bass. Tip, do not set the retreive rate more than 0.5m/sec as the bass will have to be deflated.

Power fishing is my style of fishing, I like to move around casting a spinnerbait or a crankbait and really burning it back to the boat. This is really a technique for new waters or early morning to try and locate fish, his way you can cover a lot of water fast!

Hey VX, welcome back boet. How was the honey moon? get much fishing done.

I am seriously starting to change my mind about Inanda. I do not want to pack up camp every morning to lock everything up in the car. I am even considering going rock and surf on Mon & Tues. Anyone have a tide chart for the 6th and 7th?

Hi Pomerob.

I understand your anxiousness. Inanda does have it's issues from time to time but there are a few hot spot areas you should avoid. For the most part, there are spots you can fish in peace and quiet and they are by no means secondary spots. It's also worse during the weekend than the week. However when it comes to the campsite during the week, that might be a different story. It may be very quiet and easy for the criminal element to take advantage. There is still time to go before the tour and the gates at Inanda open at 05:00. I can look at alternative B&B's in the area or camping if there is any and possibly we can use this as an alternative.

a b&b sounds great if there is enough parking for boats, that would also open up the possibility of poping down to the coast in the evenings and throwing line for some sharks Big Grin

Hi Pomerob.

I can park about 8 boats at my place. They won't be under cover, but will be behind a locked gate. My house is 15 to 20mins from Inanda and literally 2 mins out of the way from Alberts to Inanda. Still trying to find some B&B info and will let you know as soon as I have any joy.

And you guys are also welcome to park your boats at my place as well? not under cover but very secure. I?m about 35 minutes from Inanda? let see where you get B&B accommodation and we can make a call on the boat storage.

I?m getting excited about the KZN Tour and I?m thinking of taking some leave instead of just doing one day on each dam?

I fished the Inanda fish off, in june I think it was.... The car in front of my car about 5m away was cleaned out with the ppl sleeping in the back of the bakkie.... Cell fones, wallets etc etc... whatever they could get their hands on in the front of the van grew legs!!!! I'll think twice before i camp there again!!!!!
